P**s taking AGAIN

You'll remember my story from a while back,

- fitting never done when I get in
- lift back to the office next to impossible
- usually back over my time (yes I know I'm an idiot for not handing back)

Well now I've been told that I'm expected to do lapsing on the round I'm on this week. Despite the fact I arrived back at the office today at 3pm WITHOUT lapsing after a nice 5 mile walk back in the thunder/rain, and yes I did claim for an hours overtime that I don't particularly want.

Mr Union man will be informed in the morning and I'll see what happens from there. Everyone else refuses lapsing and managers buckle to them, as soon as I kick up a fuss I get knowhere and bullied/harrassed into it. I'm concerned if I stand up for myself too much I'll end up doing/saying something I regret, I'm biting my tongue so hard at present with management I think I'm going to bite it off.

Start with a grievance if nothing happens stick in another, I had to put in three before getting my problem resolved but I did win. And remember "DON'T LET THE B@STARDS GRIND YOU DOWN"

I've recently been trained on a new delivery. The last few days I've been getting in at 9am to find trays of mail on my bench waiting for me. So basically none of my walk has been prepped for my 9am start. So I'm rushing around like a lunatic trying to get ready, but today I arrive back to the office 30 minutes past my time to find a sack of packets and an angry manager at my bench. I get a bollocking about not checking for packets.

My argument was that my delivery should be prepared for me by 9am ready for me to pretty much bag up and take out and that prepping my own delivery was not technically part of my contract. It's not like I even got a chance to think about checking for packets as I was so busy with all the mail, redirections, and the packets already at my bench.

Am I in the wrong? Was it my fault I didn't think to check for packets still on the sorting frame? I'm looking for a serious answer here?

Technically, yes you are in the wrong for not checking.

I used to have the same as you and yes, it was never prepped.

When it was prepped (although I use that term loosely as I don't call literally throwing the mail at the frame as prepping) I was still expected to go around and check for any other mail for my round. I was also expected to do the redirections and the deads.

My argument with the manager that I didn't get along with was that I was told I was to come in, bag off, go out. Not finish prepping and do someone else's work. He came back with the operational needs BS and that if it wasn't prepped, I should finish it and lapse my parcels if I didn't have time.

You only have a certain amount of time in work. Do your time. If the round isn't prepped, go and advise the manager that because it isn't prepped, you will be bringing mail back as you don't have time to complete.

Hi 9am starts at the most you should only have your packets to prep, your walk should be thrown in, get onto your rep

Admittedly I'm waiting until my Union membership is finally confirmed before I feel safe to join the "Band of Brothers" ...

My union rep told me that as soon as you sign the paper to say you want to join the union, you're in the union. They didn't start taking my payments until about 6 months after I signed up!

Well I'm beginning a whole new approach tomorrow. I will be in 8.58am, I will work at a steady pace not rushing around at all, and I will leave the office when I have prepped and loaded my bags at a relaxed pace no matter how late it is. Before i leave i will inform my manager that i will bring back what i cant deliver. I will take my 30 minute break and I will get back to the office at 13.45 so I have 15 minutes for docket lefts etc. I will leave that office bang on 2.00pm no matter how much of my round i bring back.

Good for you SF.
But be prepared for the pressure that will be put on you, and make sure your Rep knows what is happening.

Nice one SF, I remember being on a 25 hour contract - not a good experience, coming in to find trays of flats on your bench and an untouched packet bag while full timers walk out to their cars with their pouches.

Of course you dont have to lapse over your time V, the idea of lapsing is to take you up to your time in our so called light summer period. Not everyone buckles and some at your d.o do say they wont laspe, i do agree however that most just shut up and put up, very sad indeed when i see them still working when im on my way home and i know they will not claim for it. This sort of cowardice makes people like you and me who want to do the job properly even harder as we get tarred with the troublemaker brush.

I realise your predicament of being on trial and we were both disappointe when it was extended (along with 12 others) for another 6 months with no reason given. I am taking this up with the DSM as we speak but they are as evasive as any other manager.

As i have told you many times what you are doing is NOT wrong, but i cannot be there all the time to let you know this adn to speak on your behalf. You have to believe that you are in the right and not back down, 99% of the s**t they come out with is a bluff ( and for most, this is when they cave in), stand strong matey, i have few weeks off now, but you have my number - use it!
