summer lapsing stays while mail volumes hit all time high

Now that D2D items are included in our live mail,summer mail volumes have hit an all time high,in some cases with 5 D2D items per household (more than 2300 per week) why are we still expected to laps duties, due to the so called summer lull. Prepping can take 20 mins longer.You need to make up more pouches,you need more bag drops, but there is no more time added to your prep time to allow for this. Lapsing was introduced to make use of the extra delivery time due to mail volumes falling through the summer.

I don't do it because I come in at my time and finish at my time (if not a bit over) so I never have time for it

I know where your coming from and I agree with you but quite simply people are still coming in early and using their cars to cope with the extra work. I get in about 5.55am on a monday and ¾ of the office are already standing about awaiting the 6am lorry having prepped 2 trays of mail into thier frames along with a weeks worth of d2ds.

Until people see sense the lapsing and increasing d2d will continue.

exactly! happens at our office too! sometimes i come in at 7.25 for a 7.30 start and the 6 oclockers have been in before 5 and are bagging up!

Getting finished this year earlier than i have ever done(or should i say before time) and that includes lapsing and that new thing of d2d into workload(always took them home before and did in my time )and i dont start early and always take my break.
Maybe the reduced mail volumes only apply to my office

Its not about if you have time to do the lapsing, if there is not enough time it dose not get done. I dont start early, and I dont go over my time but if it dont get done by me some other poor sod will have to do it in the afternoon.Its about how can RM justify summer lapsing now.

That other poor sod might turn out to be a manager, and as your doing lapsing for his financial benefit let him do it. I don't do it I refused to but others in our office do and they're not best pleased with me about it, but as I told them, stop rushing around like idiots and just complete your own walk and tell them you don't have time to do it.

We're busy too but still lapsing. Mind you people who cut off and work their hours have been taken off their delivery and given another one. People who take the whole lot out are not being paid overtime but told to come in later the next day. Folk who forget to sign for pda's or god forbid forget it are given counciling and made to sign a piece of paper to that effect.

Not being paid overtime?Sorry but i can't understand ppl who actually do/agree to this,as DGP1 said,work to yer time,take yer breaks,no lapsing,this is harrassment,unbelievable.You cannot be disciplined for doing the job correctly,after all this is what RM keep harping on about.

Well we've already had people moved from their duty due to working their time. i've seen councilling letters for lots of people recently given out. Someone else has had to have a meeting as to why he is too slow because he's having to leave mail and working to contracted hours.
The area union guy is at logger heads with the local rep and threatened to sign all changes off without local approving. TBH they are just doing what they like and i can see trouble ahead with the local rep having enough and quiting the union leaving us with nobody,
