Monday overtime

Post by Spedley »

If we are asked to do overtime/excess to clear our delivery tomorrow, what do we do?

Do we refuse and slowly catch up over the next week for free or,
Do we make up some of our lost earning with most of the damage already being done?

Catch up

Post by coppertop »

Me personally will not do the overtime period. But thsi Ifeel must be the indaviduals choice. But I was also under the impression that they did not have to pay pro-del on catch-up.

if your going to go over your time then they have to pay you as o/t in not compulsary but if it were me i'd not do any, but i don't anyway so it's up to individuals but as i see it it's waters down the efect of the action if any one does o/t after a strike

As far as i know, RM won't pay docket to clear the backlog. So be prepared for a heavy tuesday. Mind you, the 4am brigade might still be out in force helping RM out of a hole with free overtime.

We've been told each time there's been a strike that we aint allowed to perform overtime for 48 hrs.
As I'm a 30hr contract and always on a 40hr delivery (cos no duties at our office are 30hr), I won't even be able to do the whole duty let alone any clearing of backlog :Very Happy

We have been told nothing about overtime ?

Ok, so ...

money has been tight for me this month, I often do 50% overtime per week but due to recent employment in the office overtime is few and far between. I can't afford to live permenantly on 30hours per week, let alone 24:40 but I can survive for another month without casuing myself hardship.

What should I do, overtime or cut-off ?

I've taken a slagging from this forum, mostly from people not reading posts properly but I do support the union and I do have a family to feed so you decide - you have until 5.30am to give your vote.

I believe it is up to the individual. Myself as the docket does cost RM extra money to get the same work done I would think for a long time whether or not to do it.

My own personal opinion is so long as you don't work on strike days and do no more hours than what you are contracted for I see no problem. In other words if they ask you to come in on your day off to do your normal duty and your cover does not mind, and you have checked with your rep then go for it.

You've supported the strike and done your bit. In my opinion your free to do whatever you need to do.

I believe nobody should be doing any overtime. In my office we have a few people doing overtime clearing the backlog, and all that means to me is a few people earning what a lot of people have given up to support the Union.

I know its hard on part time contracts not being able to earn a decent wage, my brothers only on a 28 hour contract, but if this IA fails, there wont be any overtime. All the extra work/hours you do, will be done for nothing, when walks are collapsed 5 into 4 during the summer and sick absence is covered by your mates for nothing.

Quite a few people in my office are cribbing about the IA and would prefer a work to rule. :d'oh! That is until I mention, No cars on delivery, stop coming in early and working for nothing and take your meal break before you go out. :no no :no no Stuff they should be doing anyway. :no no :no no

I think the only way this IA is going to be effective is if there is a backlog of mail. Remember, we have escalated the action, we cant go back, the next course will more than likely be an all out. I don't really want that and neither do alot of other people, so this current strategy has to work.

These are just my opinions and I know some wont agree with them.
