Tax credits

If any of you (like me) were overpaid tax credits when the system first came in then you are probably paying the overpaid sum back by having your future awards offset against the debt. It was something i could live with even though the overpayment was not my fault and HMRC stuck two fingers up at my appeal.
The problem now being, is buried in the 2010 emergency budget. From July 2012, any household that has a joint income of more than 23000, their tax credits will cease.
What now happens to us who will still be owing. Well according to the letter i received from the minister in dealing with tax credits, the cases will be left with HMRC to collect any outstanding amounts.
Well thanks for that; so through no fault of my own, i'm going to be left with a debt that those nice people at the Inland Revenue will pursue.
It's nice to see that the tories are still looking after the lower classes.

Postman, I think you need to read the paragraph entitled "the detail" in your own link (thisismoney). I think you will find that it is indeed not bullshit.

But detailed figures hidden away in Budget documents show that from 2012, those with joint incomes worth more than £23,275 will lose their tax credits.

Some of it doesn't make sense,with one child,ok,well it's not ok,but what happens if you have 2,3,4.....
That can't be right.In fact that would make it impossible for some to live.
Those without mortages i would of thought would be able to claim extra housing and council tax benefit 'i presume'.But what about those with mortages!

That is indeed the bit i was refering to and why I contacted my MP who then passed it on to the minister dealing with tax credits. There should be an amnesty because many people are going to be in debt to the Inland Revenue through no fault of their own. I currently owe around two grand which will be down to fifteen hundred by 2012 but HMRC wont give a s**t, they'll just come after it.
I aint gonna take this lying down though, i'm meeting my MP later this month to see if she will raise a parliamentry question on this issue and take up my case personally with HMRC (don't hold much hope as she's a tory).
If i get no joy with her then i'll try to raise a lobby through the union and hopefully the TUC as everyone will be affected not just us posties.
The thing is there has been no public outcry as yet. I believe that's because no one has yet to part with any hard cash. That'll change in 2012, if nothing has been achieved before then.

Just got my award last week for the next 12 months, its almost doubled what we were getting last year, despite owing overpaid monies from past awards.

And we both work, me FT er indoors PT.
