I think to be honest they are all well aware that they are the next targets.
They got a warning shot across their bows when they were going to have to apply for their own jobs.
Now its a cat fight to see who can get the most brownie points with the next manager up the food chain, so that hopefully (for them) they are the least likely to be P45'd

A very interesting point, but yes if i were them i would be very worried.
Out of the 50 or so managers i have known,i would say 2 would have held such a post in private industry.Of the remainder a large % would not only have fallen short but been laughed out of town.
Many lack basic numeracy and literacy skills.

My DIM is clinging on by the skin of his teeth. Sad thing is he believes he's untouchable. Moved out of his last office for bullying the rep, B&H case submitted against him at my office, incappable of doing his job. The idiot gets carried by the ops manager, who ain't much better and by the brilliant postal workers in my office. Truth is, we could run the office without them.

Some Managers do realise that they are next in line - a lot of them are probably going to end up as 'team leaders' in the Mail Centres. And some of them do hope we will win, but they don't have the bottle to make a stand themselves.
A lot of them are also worried abot what is going to happen to their pensions.
But there are a lot - mainly the newer ones who came in as casuals/AG's and were made up within a short time - who just seem to think that they are safe as long as they toe the RM line.

Too true that most units run themselves,my Office of about 50 people is run by the 2 PHG`S aided by the unit REP and a few senior Postmen.
Everybody knows this, last christmas the DUM took 2 Saturday`s off,the place ran like clockwork on those 2 days because he wasn`t there to foul things up!
A classic example of this was his answer to the question of one parcel delivery driver (This man had agreed to do an hours docket to help clear a few parcels which by now were threatening the skylight)so asked DUM which one`s he wanted clearing.
After much scratching of his head he decided on the following classic policy"take all the big ones out it will make it look better".

That doesn't surprise me.We have a trainee manager in our office straight from university ie. no experience at all, who was giving a team talk two weeks into the job.Beggars belief!michael147 wrote:Too true that most units run themselves,my Office of about 50 people is run by the 2 PHG`S aided by the unit REP and a few senior Postmen.

Truth is RM want puppets not people who think for themselves, to do their bidding.
I can't say I have any time for them, they take the money so let them get on with it.

Of course the job would run much better without managers. Mail would be delivered earlier, so the customer is happy, there would be less friction in offices, making us happier.
Never forget:
There is no situation so bad that the arrival of a manager won't make it worse.

The policy is to make up to acting -ethnic minorities and women , orders from on high , nothing wrong with that if ??? it's on merit . I've seen a Messiah MCM neutralize the union by making a rep Writing Room mgr , he did the road to damuscus then he failed the "RMprowler wrote:That doesn't surprise me.We have a trainee manager in our office straight from university ie. no experience at all, who was giving a team talk two weeks into the job.Beggars belief!michael147 wrote:Too true that most units run themselves,my Office of about 50 people is run by the 2 PHG`S aided by the unit REP and a few senior Postmen.

test" , a unit rep was made personnel mgr , as for the remaining area reps they were played up against the NEC and later threatened. There's one who was initially was acting then made up to substantive in charge of distribution , a relative of his hi-jacked a union meeting held on the grounds mgt were deliberately spreading idle gossip on TC AGs going , that relative wanted 15 made up to full time and 25 down the road. Not surprisingly most walked out in disgust , the price of everything and the value of nothing , everyone's got a price and everyone can be bought aparently. The present MCM when NSM threatened the mgr who could run his sections like clockwork and treated everyone the same no pc nonsense - " Your heart doesn't seem to be in the job, either buck up your ideas or I'll put you back in uniform". Hence the transfers to another MC with a better MCM .

One of ours say he cant wait till they finish with us as he wants EVR and he knows they'll be after him and his mates soon.
Also Managers are expecting us to walk out in Sympathy with an office who are going to have late starts forced in Monday. I shan't let him down. Give their due 2 of more switched on ones agree with us about later starts and says its to save money. However, 1 told us in WTLL that the shift allowance may be kept under the granddad rules.
Is this another sign of RM management moving. No I doubt it.
