THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?

Not such a simple question as it sounds, this one, as it's been further complicated by the '2010 and Beyond' agreement.

Until last year, anyone picking up a third of a walk on O/T (whether it be to cover sickness or leave), was paid for 2hrs. I should add, at this point, that all walks in our DO are allegedly 3hr 30min (according to a poorly executed Pegasus Georoute revision. In fact some take well over 4hr on an average day), regardless of whether F/T (40hr) or P/T (30hr).

Recently, following the receipt of a Papal bull from the DSM (allegedly), anyone taking on a third has only been paid an hour and a halfs O/T. Justification given was 'the mail's thrown out for you', which, to be honest it usually is. HOWEVER - As far as many of my colleagues and I are concerned, this allows insufficient time for: turning letters for packets, tying and bagging up, redirections, and conveyance.

Now to the '2010 and Beyond' bit. We are also required to prep and deliver D2Ds (simple maths 540 ap walk, multiply by 1/3 by 1/6 = prep and deliver to 30 ap's each day). This used to be acceptable - after all, we used to get paid for it! Not any more, and NO EXTRA TIME ALLOWED. Given the fact that this week we've received an average of 4 items - including 2 which in the past would have been 3.5p items, this seems to be taking the mickey.

I approached our CWU rep, just regarding the matter of the D2D prep time. His response was 'They just won't pay anymore, and while people are willing to do the overtime, they won't!'

I'd just like to know how it works in other DO's? I'd be particularly interested in replies from offices in the Gwent & South East Wales areas - my patch, so to speak! Cheers.

simple answer is JUST SAY NO. they will soon give you more o/t to do the walks . i will only do half a walk on o/t for no less than 3 hours o/t .

Exactly Daz....having to argue at a local or area level for 2hrs pay for 1hrs work or 3hrs for 2hrs is divisive.
A national premium overtime system is long overdue.

I dont do OT now , but in our office when they are desperate they will pay well over the odds,four hours for half a walk sometimes....it even tempts me.....

DOM wanted to make it 1hr 45 but forgot about travelling time.

Think yourselves lucky. 1 row for 2 hours...thats 8 hours for a whole duty!

we get 1 hr 15 mins for a 3rd or 2 and a half for half around.

2 hrs 30m 4 half a round and 1hr 40m for a 1/3 of a round at our place.

Plus an extra half hour if you do the lapsing on it.............

All bagged up and dropped out to a bag drop of your choice most of the time aswell.............

2 hours per row, and about 1 hour for the lapsing. I cant believe that people will do it for any less. You lose over 30% in tax and national insurance, so if you get 2 hours pay thats £18.80, but you will bring out around £13. Like some others said, the less people willing to do o/t the more you will get paid.

Seriously? a third of a round would take longer than 1hr 15 mins, with all the extras like travelling, bundling up. and you would only end up with less than £8 ha!

What is wrong with you people, how is doing o/t helping in any way, shape or form to highlight that either the jobs are too big or the delivery offices are under staffed?

I used to do o/t every day but not any more, 2 managers had to go out this week with full, yes full walks.....I can assure they'll soon get pissed off with that, and surprise surprise it took the fat unfit twats nearly 3 1/2 hours to do the walks, cumuppence springs to mind.......we all had great pleasure in reminding them it's our light period and how long would it have taken them with 8 registered, twice the packets etc etc

Needless to say they have a different outlook of things now, but as far as o/t goes, don't do any, you'll soon get in a position where they'll be begging you to do it for 3, 4 or even 5 hours for half a round.
