BOMB in N.Wales office recently

It would appear, that the two people have been arrested for "Explosive Offences" for sending a parcel to MI6 ,are from N.Wales.

So, by the means of deduction, Watson, it would seem that this parcel would more than likely have gone through a N.Wales sorting office. YES?!

1. Are we to be informed if this WAS the case? ( Yes, they "could" have sent it from anywhere, but, guessing the intellect of these 2 idiots, probably not! )

2. What procedures are to put into place to stop potential "Copy Cat" bombers following suit?

3. I for one, and probably many others here, DO NOT want to have our Lives put at risk in the future, segging mail, or bombs...

4. Will RM issue a "Warning", or sweep it under the carpet?

I've got a Holiday booked this year, and would like to take it...in one piece.

I don't think these things can be predicted.

MI5 and MI6 could not possibly check on every sorting office, you could only act if somebody is acting on a threat, which means anybody with a grudge,
MIs are only an Intelligence tracking service they are nothing like James Bond, they could inform anyone in advance of where bomb will be at a given time,
for that you require a crystal ball. 2 Idiots may well be trained Islamist terrorist, local oddball, Meibion Glyndŵr or just simply opportunist.

But when there were threats to the USA with "powder" being sent, I'm sure that US Postal set up some sort of Security System in places that handled sensative documents, eg, to The White House, Senate Building, Law Courts etc.

If the Technology exists, shouldn't we have a chance to utilise it?

I suppose they can detect, but not prevent individuals from committing acts of terrorism, not all explosives etc can be detected, Semtex is a very difficult one to detect, from what I remember one of the give aways is the smell of marzipan, but I don't think I want to go near one of them just to smell it,others are crudely made, using alarm clocks or mobile phone as a trigger, unusual shapes, wire sticking out, buzzing or ticking sound in fact anything unusual, however looking just for one out of thousands is like a needle in a haystack, that where intelligence service comes in, they can monitor and track suspects, even they are subject to the law of evidence, you must catch them in the act with incriminating evidence, sometimes you allow events to play in order to create evidence.

Unfortunately suspect packages are one of the hazards that comes with working in the postal service, that's why there is a suspect packages procedure which everyone should be well aware of, and a bomb tube, and in most offices posters dotted around the place as a reminder that it is a rare but ever present threat.

Yeah, my Gran used to call em "Buzz Bombs".

Then either get the tube repaired, and the gate left open. Or a new one put in a more suitable place! Ours is easily accessible (just off the Bays), and kept in good condition. It's highly unlikley that you'll ever need it. But it's reasuring to know it's there, if you need it.

Perhaps it's different in the DOs. But all MCs and RDCs should have a Bomb Tube, for suspect packages. We've never needed to use ours. But it's nice to know it's there, if we ever need it.

On the plus side that is one area of the business that the spin masters can't claim has suffered due to the growth of email.
