I finally had the day off today and on my way out (9.50am) for the day I passed 3 managers delivering to one road. On seeing the last manager I slowed the car down opened the window and shouted out 'should'nt you be walking faster', he did'nt look very happy, what a shame

If its the same as our managers doing deliveries they only take 1st class items as they can cover thier arse by saying they've done the USO don't think that works as an excuse for the posties though , think its then called willfull delay

Of course, someone would have to alert them to the possibility that there were incorrectly insured vehicles driving about. Not that I'd encourage anyone to grass on their Managers. Or would I?

I remember once when a driver delivered my last bag to the completely wrong drop point, i went back and forth like a blue arsed fly at each of my drop points to try and find it...nothing! I phoned the office to let them know and made my way back. The only guy still there was the big dog, the office manager. He phoned the driver and it turns out he had put the bag in a random box on the other side of town! Unbelieveable! He took me out in his car and we picked it up and drove to the first address, which is when i informed him i had a dentist appointment and couldn't deliver the bag! (It was about 3:30pm at this point). His face was a picture, I had the main man do the last bag in the rain dressed in shoes, trousers, shirt and tie! The hassle was worth it!

These days it amazes me what lengths managers will go to prevent themselves actually having to go out and deliver the mail. Ive seen double docket overtime being offered and days off for doing a 3rd of a round.

Back in the days when managers all came from postie stock it did not seem to bother them so much as most hand a pair of trainers and a waterproof somewhere in the office. Once all other avenues had been explored they excepted that the mail had to be delivered and got on with it. Some even welcomed the change for a day.

The last managers I saw doing a delivery left all the mailsort and 2nd class flats behind. They tipped the packet bag but only took 1st and recorded items. A round which was normally 7 bags was reduced to just 3 that day as half was still left in the frame so the following day the postie go slaughtered.

Bad but i've seen worse.One of our duties used to get a bag dropped off at a local hotel,unfortunately one of the departing guests laid his luggage next to the bag and his taxi driver loaded the whole lot into his cab and drove off! It was discovered dumped on the platform of a train station 65 miles away!

The complete bag arrived next morning and was laid on the posties desk! The manager told us in the future that's probably how all our mail would come! Still a bit away from that though eh? Fifteen years and counting..............

I'm shocked that a bag that had been dumped on a train station platform even survived! An unattended bag left at my local station would be plundered by the local scallies in less than 10 minutes!
