Deputy Manager Job?

Have applied for a Deputy Office Manager's job, but has anyone actually done/doing this job on here? Would just like some insight of what the job entails.

i have done this job and the best advice i can give is to go onto work"commando" as it will save time when you get shafted up the arse.you will get s**t from postmen and even more s**t from senior managers who will expect you to shaft your colleagues and then when you either quit or sent down to work as a posty again your workmates will hate you and s**t all over you every oppertunity they get.

Ive not done it myself but have known 2 guys that had a go. Its a tought learning curve and you will have the sticky end of the stick.

However if you have the will power and determinition i wish you the very best of luck buddy

I did it, 2 weeks training mainly on how to conduct a wtl session, no training at all on the every day office work non whatsoever on how to manage men, then sent to an office (opted out of my own office) lasted 3 days and went back to duty, never again will I venture onto the dark side.

Yeah, pretty much so, only on shitter pay I believe, plus when they don't have any managerial work for you they put you back on your old duty and everybody hates you. Our office is strewn with failed deputy managers, which makes me think it's a job that's not worth the hassle.

Be careful. The whole role is changing for all management. 1 Dom and 2 line managers,(or 1 line manager and 1 deputy). Team leaders is the word here. Normal managers role and then a delivery duty. You will be in charge of certain sections of an office. This combined with World Class Mail. The role is not what it once was and there are negotiations with the CMA now.

To be fair that's been on the cards for ages. They have been since I started eroding the responsibilities and duties of the Line Managers, now they cant even sort leave out for their section or agree docket/early starts othe than on immediate issues. Just this week our one was hauled over the coals because we could not sot everything in the allotted time, yet they do not let him get a PTimer to come in early so we could cope, which only a few weeks ago he would have been. I think TBH the team leaders job will be as you say then they will be leave and/or sickness cover for their team.

Acting manager has to be the worst job in Royal Mail.

You get treated like dirt from both sides.

Many have tried and failed at my office, not because of the crap from the shop floor, but because of the s**t from up high.

The last round of deputy managers broke the strike thinking they would get a permanent position and were then farmed out to other offices on pro rata pay.

When they complained they were told 'if you dont like it go back to being a postie. We only want the most commited people'

So unless you give up your life and dignity then i would advise against it.

Im guessing it must be as close to faecal matter a human being can become.
