Work? It's like playing golf!

Post by arty_morty »

Golf is as sporting as I generally get and it's got something in common with this job. Just when you think you've got it worked out, it kicks you square in the nads. My first few days alone went really well. I was doing 30 plus packets, a minimum of 20 SDs, bag drops and a walk and finishing at around 1.

Then I had my first Tuesday (last week) alone, which everyone warned me was the busiest day. But me, cocky middle-aged thing that I am thought I would sail through. Well I did, and I kept on sailing until 3. This week was different though. I finished at 1 with a similar workload and the mis-sort run.

But like golf I know I haven't cracked it. I am just as likely to finish at 3 again next week just as I could shoot an 85 (that's good for me) or a 95 (more likely) next time I play a round.

I still wouldn't go back to my old career over this though. I must be a rare breed, happy in my job.
I staged a Roger Moore impersonator festival in my local village. There were a lot of eyebrows raised, I can tell you.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Ah golf a great walk spoilt. :nana I think the thing with golf is that you mostly make your own mistakes like taking a fairway wood and going for the green when you really should pull up short with an iron and chip on. :d'oh!

Royal Mail is a different can of worms where you may have an easy day letters and flat wise and then you tip your packet bag and find 6 or 7 recorded deliveries and a couple of tracked which kinda kills it dead.

Ive also found that getting an awkward and long piece of absorption can really take the jam out of a once good day.

Yes the mails (as in letters and flats) are down on a tue's but as i walker/driver i find the parcels and reg's/rec's rocket. It must be the surge of interent shopping over the weekend as i can have 15 things to get signed for on a light tues.
