D2D Topic Number #583490202

Post by proper postie »

The topic has probably been well covered, unlike our duties ha!,but I have a specific question.

D2D payment is pro rata right? so has the agreement been broken if you still do the same handling regardless of hours worked?

Hypothetical scenario

At D.O. level it is agreed that 40 hr contracts will prep d2d for pt staff on a Monday,pt staff to prep the rest on a Tuesday instead of "lapsing"

pt staff come in on Monday and no d2d prepped.
Ever.
Period.
As the yanks say.

pt staff doing the exact same work as ft staff but getting paid a fraction of the money. This is clearly bullshit no?

Although I have sympathy with your position to answer your specific question: No - The Delivery Supplement is based on hours contracted to work within the Delivery Function not on the tasks carried out. Furthermore there is no longer any payment for doing D2Ds so as long as the work they ask you to do is within your contracted hours they can ask you to do anything.

The separate question of whether its fair or not is easily answered - No its not fair.

What you need to do is see your local rep and tell him that management are going against the agreement and see what he is going to do about it. If the answer is not satisfactory then go to area, division, HQ. Another angle is have you asked the full timers or the managers, in a non confrontational way, why the D2Ds are not being prepped as agreed - they might have a sensible answer.

Just a thought as well, as the national agreement says D2D should be prepped into a full frame, how can they do this before the PT even come in. :hmmmm :hmmmm :hmmmm . looks as though management have slipped one past your office. :confused

Do you have the official wording of that at hand perchance?

Just a quickie. As a part timer, if I am asked and agree to come in and cover a full timers round who goes sick, do I receive a further days supplement pro-rata. If not, why not ?

I would say no because it's done on your contracted hours not overtime hours which you'll be doing if you come in and cover a full timers duty. I think if you're doing a 40 hour week then you should get the full payment but you know royal mail fairness doesnt mean it will happen. Also did part timers realise that when they do overtime they dont get paid overtime rate until they've worked 40 hours? they just get basic hourly pay.

Lincox - No to the quickie if you don't mind. :chuckle :chuckle

Unfortunately its a definite No as well for the overtime as the Delivery Supplement is based on Contracted hours not actual worked hours.

And no its not fair, nothing about the Delivery Supplement is. Frankly it amazes me that the CWU accepted the Delivery Supplement as presented to us, it needed a lot more tweaking.

Because they are using the flawed IWT the idea was simply that the PT comes in bags up and goes didn't work out.The obsession with absorption and getting those walks prepped first is obvious.
Also if you check some PT overtime hours they are possibly on 40 hours per week.

We have 60+ part timers and bar the odd one or two, the vast majority will be working more than their contracted hours - now there was previously the argument that they should have more hours added to their contract but in the light of WSMs et al some of the excess hours will be absorbed naturally into the scheme of things.

In that case TB can the part timer then refuse to do the D2Ds on that round for that day, and leave them for the fulltimer who is getting the supplement. And I know that the supplement isn,t a payment for D2Ds but there must be some fair way of linking pay to workload for part timers who exceed their contracted hours.

Well you used to be able to rely on CWU, perhaps we could start to rely on the staff association that seems to have replaced it.

Well TB. I have been a trade unionist for nearly 30 years, and I am afraid that having read these threads together with the one on fixed term contracts and the way Royal Mail are treating workers that have many years service, I no longer have any faith that the CWU have it in them to represent the postal worker members fairly, and do not have the skills, imagination, fore thought to deal with the unscrupulous management that currently run Royal Mail, and for this reason I will be suspending my subscriptions forthwith, until there is a major change in the way CWU represent it,s paying members.

Does there come a time when it makes more sense to deliver one set of D2D/day?
If you've got 5 D2D items on a walk with 750 delivery points and a 90% call rate - the prep time allocated on a daily basis is 18 minutes.
Surely the extra cold-calling for that 10% could be less than 18 minutes/day, especially if that 10% can be identified at the start of the week, (Empty properties etc) as suggested in the guidelines anyway.
Would it not make sense then to deliver 1 set/day which would also allow greater control over the weights of bags?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Only if you didn't prep it and took it out in bundles which is not ideal if you have something large/bulky but i do take your point that the times would be similar.
However.......Royal Mail want the ability to flex either up or down and a 100% call rate doesn't allow for that.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
