Hi all my day off today but had a call from a guy at work to say, that as from next week if you work your day out you will only be paid for four hours, anyone else heard this, my answer was as an office DONT work your day out.

I think what they mean is they only need you for the delivery of your duty.
The indoor part will be absorbed.

With six vacancies, let alone sickies, our office pretty much survives on people working their day off.

Were they only to offer 4 hours pay, even if it is only for the delivery part of the day, then I could see the whole thing going tits up. Very few people would give up their day off on this basis. The office would collapse inside a day.

Can't see our DOM accepting this from his area manager. He ain't that silly!

in our distribution section they tried something similar last year whereby the road service part was put on OT but not the landing work which meant that 4 hours would have been given instead of 8 hours.didn't last long as no-one was prepared to waste their day off for 4 hours and as such some road services failed due to lack of cover.it was priceless

We started this about a year ago. 6 hours, start at 8 finish at 2.A lot of us stopped doing overtime due to this. now the L M has to ask us if we would work our days off. Yes, for 8 hours.

The dom in my last office told myself and others that we would only get paid 2 hrs instead of the norm 3 for doing half a shift.

I think the dom knew the answer if he asked anybody to do o/t. It would be a resounding 'no'!

One week later it was changed back to normal...dom must of been desperate

They will try and absorb as much as they can,it's up to the individual if they still want to do it.
Usually it's a resounding no at my place then it goes back to normal.

Market forces in action the law of supply and demand, use it to your advantage.

You supply the hours so if the price is not worth it don't do it. The demand on the Managers will then increase and so will the price RM are willing to pay.

Mind you watch out for the fly-tipper who undercuts everyone.

Overtime? It goes to the 'strike breakers' who are now doing nights on the WSMs, purely so they can grab the lot before anyone else comes in.

They must be desperate though because they don't get anywhere near the full duty times - when they're off the managers can't cover because nobody else will do it for what they will. The managers come around asking if anyone wants a 'third of this' of 'half of that', and the most common reaction is this And this

all stick together and dont work your day off they will soon want you for more then 4 hours
