How are you going to cope with family arrangements?

So when the change in hours come in. How are you personally going to manage your time?

It's going to be a lot of hassle for folk with kids at nursery and school, especially in the winter when the darker nights settle in early.

I'm going to have to take a break in the middle of my shift to go and pick daughter up from her Grandmothers to take her to nursery at 11am in the morning.
Ain't told the gaffer yet. I suspect he will obviously have an issue.....as managers do.

What about the rest of the mums and dads on here?? tough times ahead??

Most of those mums and dads do not start work as early as us Dogs of War.
That gives us issues at both ends of the working day whereas those in a 9-5 job can usually see their kids off to school before work.
With a proposed 0700-1500 shift pattern you have the worst of both worlds.

Most folks started this job because of the hours they were supposed to be working---not knowing how they were going to be mucked around--in other jobs you know you are going to work 5-9 or whatever, and base your domestic needs around it. No other job would constantly expect you to keep changing your times as often asRM--

the later the better as far as i'm concerned,gotta adapt,overcome etc. missus works night shifts,so 0700-0800 start would do me ok,as it is now she works the night before my rest day,& every sat night,i can see the issues with childcare tho for other people

I tend to agree... people CHOOSE to have kids then start bleating on about the expense and inconvenience and expect to get preferential treatment over people who dont have kids.

When I started, I worked from 05.15-10.15, Monday to Saturday. Now I work 06.30-12.30 (05.35-11.45 on Saturday) 5 days over 6. The proposed changes of a 15.00 finish, means I won't start till 09.00, only an hour and a quarter before I used to finish!
The reason I started working for RM was the hours, not the wages. The ease of making family arrangements without "bleating on about the expense and inconvenience and expect to get preferential treatment over people who dont have kids". That is why so many of us have a problem with the continual (detrimental) changes to the hours we work.
So you'll forgive me if I continue to complain about it. RM move the goal posts, not us.

Nope

People CHOOSE to have kids and then start bleating on about how this "family friendly" company doesn't care about the inconvenience of us not wanting our kids to stand about alone after school or nursery.

We don't expect to get preferential treatment over people who don't have kids........We are entitled to it. Royal Mail doesn't give a f**k about it though.

Btw....who was moaning about "expense"?
