Rules on days off after holidays

hello all , I have just had 3 weeks off saturday to saturday returned home saturday evening, Gone into work today and its my day off ,not happy. Who is responsible for notifying of day off considering 3 week leave . Am i suppose to ring in while on my holiday to find my day off is . Basically that is what she said . Also needs HR number to phone them . thanks

Phoned HR .Apparently there is NO written procedure for the method ,Just common courtesy of your manager/team manager. Guess my place dont have any!

Our duties for the coming week are posted on the notice board thurs pm/ fri am latest. If you're off or sick, the phg sends you your duties on a slip in the post. thought this was common practice as it happened at my old office too?

Are you not the walk holder?, and day off on rotation. If so, you should know what your day off is week to week! I go away on holiday in a fortnight, and my day off is Thursday when i get back, then back into work on the Friday.

No not a duty holder hence why i dont know which day i have off.

Nice one i shall enquire in office tomorrow ,but according to a line manager it is so called my duty to find out ie phone when on holiday lol....

I don't really see how it makes any difference whether you are a duty holder or not, do you not have days off in order? we have a few who still take a day off rather than a week off every 6, and they just have a rolling day off, so it doesn't matter what duty you're on you get your day off when you should, and it means you get your long weekend of when you're supposed to.

trythat - You've obviously never been a reserve, we get f***ed about from pillar to post, different day off every week, never on rotation, 1 saturday in 20 if we're lucky, we have to know every walk and a quite a few rurals so we can get pissed around actually on the day, we go in expecting to be on a town walk and get moved to a rural we haven't done for 12 months and they expect us prep it and get out with everyone else and to finish it on time.........as I say, you've obviously never been a reserve!

There is a rumour circulating that reserves are to be paid more when revisions for all offices have been done, it's about bloody time if you ask me, these one round posties are oblivious to how lucky they are!! lol

That made me smile .I once ended up having 7 tuesday off in consecitive weeks . I got fed up complain not fair having easiest day off...I mainly get mondays,tuesdays off. Why is it i read on here so many offices have different rules for each DO but we are all RM

spot on totally agree especially with the 1 in 20 for saturday off..

All part-timer's pay will increase when the 39hr week kicks in for full-timers....not just reserves

Being a reserve is obviously the shittiest job in RM delivery and also the most difficult.
I would guess that they are responsible for most of the presuure o/t paid out in a DO. And also they are probably responsible for the most complaints - failed redirections/misdeliveries etc, due to their inexperience.
Wouldn't it make sense to offer the position of reserve to experienced posties with an allowance for doing the job? It wouldn't save RM any money but they might have less complaints to deal with and a more senior postie would actually be financially rewarded for being good at their job.

I am reserve ,yes it is shitty when you get mostly mon & tuesdays off... But i do like the challenge of the new round and basically like change! Yes we get all the blame for re-directions etc,because obviously we are the floater on that round & only floaters makes mistakes!

can you clarify what you call an experienced postman is ? Has if a postman who as been on one round for 15 years ,then they are offered the reserve job what would make them any different to a reserve who as been doing the job for 12months or more.

It is very unusual for someone to walk in the door and be on a delivery for 15years.
Usually they have done their stint as a reserve as well.
Reserves are not a new thing in this business...i started as one and that was many years ago.
