for my office to do the job right?

we already P&L
voted in by flappers who were scared to let Executive action come in
we lapse 15x the hours of a nearby office who did go to EA
many staff still come in early and dont take breaks
there are still staff using their cars
staff are still working over even when they dont want to as the duties are too long in many cases
staff moan about lapsing but do some/all of the above

now the latest one last week
staff have to forecast OT before leaving the office
but now the managers are saying they will not pay OT but will pay it back in banked hours
they stated this the day after folks had worked over and refused to pay them
coming out with stuff like well you finished early on Tuesday

now after all this,staff are still working over
what will it take? can you blame the managers for constantly pushing since posties just keep taking it?

i fear its too late
while i was away many left the union after the yes vote
many arent interested and we only have 1 rep covering the whole office (4 postcode areas)
and he's a bit of a div
since our old rep retired,nobody was that interested. i have too much on outside RM and know i wont be there that long.

a rep is one thing but reading what i have posted you would think it would be sinking in by now
but unfortunate i fear theres no hope for them

i go in and sit in the break room till my start time
i was on my own,theres now 3 or 4 of us
break time there will be under 1/3 of the office
on Saturday there was a handful of us
we lapsed on Saturday! yet folks are rushing about and skipping breaks

You should have been in my office on Saturday, first time ever we were asked to lapse, and ffs nearly all that were asked were nearly in tears, no joke. they had all come in early,they had all cleared their d2d during the week and one guy even went home because he came in on OT and they DARE ask him to lapse....you couldnt make it up....

we get walk sequenced mail now
on a Saturday it isnt down for our earlier start (5am instead of 6)
yet they still come in early
i got in a 5 and there was half a tray of flats and a bit of mail on the IPS
i put the flats up and they had us at the primary
i dont get why they come in early to no gain

i came in on time
took my break and finished 10 minutes before my time

I'm looking forward to hearing the outcome of some drama at our depot yesterday...
Once everyone had left the depot, the managers suddenly realised there was a message on the managers office answering machine, informing them that a postie was calling in sick (message left just after 0500)!

I was asked, even begged to do some, but I declined as I knew I was going likely to unusually go over on mine (informed cover-lino) plus I felt like "death warmed up" from a cold I'd had all week.

I then saw one of our posties cycled back to the depot at 1045, with earliest bunch leaving around 0745, which made me think...

If I was in the managers shoes, I would break this "sickness walk" into 10-15 small bunches and get it lapsed by the first 10-15 flyers back through the door expecting to start their weekend during work hours (which finish at 1230).

Unfortunately, there was no sign of the managers when I returned at 1300 (shock horror), but I so hope they used some lapsing instead of sending flyers home and then paying someone overtime!

Why? Because I believe I am now on the same payrate as long-term posties, so why should I be working pretty much every working day to or often beyond my contract hours, while flyers are effectively being given a "ghost salary rise" by finishing before contract hours most days of the week...

we in my office, have just been told we have to lose another 48 hours( there's a film in there somewhere!!!) this, despite moving to a 4 hour 15 minute delivery span last year, so I have told the manager, that I want the whole office working properly for a trial week and he is up for it as well, then we shall see if we can lose more hours, but the members will probably vote against it!!!!

Making the quick ones do more work is not a good idea. They would very soon either slow down or not go back to the office right away. Remember for someone to finish earlier than normal does not neccessarily mean they are quicker, it could mean their walk is a lot easier or they had less packets that day etc.
And even if they choose to work faster - so what? Its like that in every single business! What do you want? A robotic slave factory? I say keep job and finish intact and put pressure on the so called union to protect it! If a postman/woman wishes to expend their energy to finish a little earlier, they should not be punished for it.

Err...haven't we tried that experiment and wasn't it's failure rather spectacular.
We've been screwed over once with job & finish maybe it's time we kind of learnt our lesson and moved on.

I mean putting in more effort than the average person, in every industry this actually protects jobs. In fact - it is good for the soul to work hard. If you dont like it then find an easier job!!
