Questioning overtime

Has anyone had problems with their DOM. questioning their overtime? I hear it all the time in our office.A thousand questions because someone went over by half a hour.I cannot for my life understand why they tollerate it.I said to my manager " the first time you question my overtime," "I work to time" never had a problem!! overtime paid without question..

As long as you ensure you see your section manager, or the manager covering for your normal lino before you go out, you let them have the choice...

Are they happy for you to get {insert guestimate} overtime in order to complete? If you want to or are happy to, that is...

Would they prefer to lapse your estimated excess to a flyer? If there is spare capacity to do so and the lapser is doing everything expected on their own walk including meal relief in time they are paid for, with time left over during their contract hours...

Would they prefer to give your estimated excess to someone as overtime?

Would they prefer you to take out the lot and then come back with your actual excess for a contract time finish?

My line manager has been on holiday all this week and it has resulted in some light-hearted banter between myself and my old section manager from my first walk as a postie newbie, informing them I will probably need extra time to complete everyday since Monday, which is normal for my walk (although not usually on a Saturday). What probably helps my cause is that on Friday (yesterday), two section managers were prepping the walk opposite me for a while and saw my bench of reggies (~10 recorded, 6 specials) and mountains of parcels. I thought I would need to go over to complete, but the only reason I went over was that I got chatting to one of my customers for a while (10-15 mins), in excess of my meal relief allowance. Hence I finished work 15 minutes past my contract and did not claim for it (letting my cover-lino know why). So when I said I very unusually needed to go over today, he had faith in my guestimate, which meant I got 35 minutes o/t today... While most others in my section left the office to enjoy the weekend around 1130 (1 hour under)!

Edit: Another tip is to always seek out your line manager away from the office, then its down to you and your line manger, not the sub-DOM or DOM adding a Spanish Inquistion ;)

The problem lies when you get a lino who won't listen to you saying that you'll be going over and your guestimate and says "you'll be fine" etc etc. You end up arguing with them and then ironically, take longer to get out on delivery. They then say that your arguing with them was in your own time. Seen it done

This week our dom refused to pay our overtime, they had every one in that claimed, asking what time they finished on Tues (quiet day). Everything is about to kick off soon in our office.

No offence to the boy it's just that i have a short attention span and a certain allergy to long-winded replies.
I always feel that it's easier to see the facts when they are not surrounded by "chaff".

Breaking news: When not at work, posties can have other skills outside putting letters and parcels into correct slots, sometimes with deadlines! :o

And the "ologies" were the subjects I studied back in uni from '92... (after serving my time at grammar school. Which just goes to show that life does not always turn out how you expect, things happen that change your life dramatically. But for where my life is now, being a postie is probably the perfect job for me, as it gives me a daily dose of 4+ hours outdoors, keeping Seasonal Affective Disorder so much more low-key than anytime in the last 15 years since I became a sufferer...)
