Sorry in advance if this as been done already. What BSI rate should we be using for the IWT?
Our DOM wanted 110% and we were told everyones using 100%BSI?

110% May I suggest your DOM needs to go back to school - thats not even possible - at 110% BSI he wants you to do 2 hours IPS in 1 hr 48 minutes or a 3 hour delivery in 2 hours 42 minutes.

As to the starting point I think it depends on various factors Dingo has mentioned 70 and 80% as starting points might be worth checking his posts.

WRONG - Over 100% is possible, our office is achieving on average 115% over the past 4 weeks, however the DSM says that still does not mean you
are exempt from any savings, if you cannot collapse outdoor then you need to push your BSI further on the indoor - BAFOON

I think our office managed 34% one day, but then again maybe the calculator was just feeling generous.

No, unfortunately not. The problem is however, this still aint enough

I was under the impression that the BSI figure was not a percentage figure but an industry standard of measuring performance. I was also informed (rightly or wrongly) that
other uk industries performance is also measured using this and 70 BSI is an average of most of the industries in the uk. If anyone can elaborate more it would be helpful.

I've Googled it to confirm but I can't find anything on it.

From what I remember BSI rate is based on you performing a task and any time not directly related to the task is deducted.
i.e. walking to collect your rough sack or clear IPS fittings would be deducted from the total number of hours worked and used to calculate the efficiency.
You could achieve over 100% if absorbtion were not included in the base figure, i.e. some walks were being done for free but really it should go on mail volumes and so absorbtion would actually reduce your BSI due to inefficiencies of multiple people doing the same job.

In order to provide a valid argument against all the lapsing etc based on BSi, I would think it would be in everyones best interest to understand
it and gain as much knowledge on it as possible rather than just dismiss it out of hand.

And that bhp is exactly what they don't want. I was talking to a planner today and he kept stressing how every second was to be accounted for in one way or another - no parking zones equated to x, garden fronted equated to y, wiping your nose on a wet day was z, cleaning your glasses because they have steamed up w etc etc - what I didn't hear was, bloke having a s**t day, woman hadn't much sleep because child had a restless night......................... this isn't a caring employer, it is a soulless machine which takes no account of the individual. During the 70s there was a strong reliance on work study producing the best results for the workplace but what it actually did was to alienate the workforce and that is precisely what will happen here in the long run because the tendency is to take the measures too far.
