part time hrs

hi folks

can someone give me some advice please i have been part time for 4 years now with 3 kids all very young and from day one i have never done my 27 1/2 hr contract ive always been put on full time duties which i didnt mind at first but as time got on we started struggling financially as working and child tax was dropping every year due to me going over my annual quote of which i stated i was expected to earn this was really bad when i got to taking annual leave and basically only had a basic part time wage to support my family for annual leave weeks or time off etc we have now got most of the overpayments to tax credits clear and have been quoted a decent amount if i stay within range of my annual gross pay.we also have discovered that we are also entitled to housing and council tax benefit which will help loads too.to be very frank i would rather they offered me a full time contract and id bite there hand off but i know they wont.what is my position in asking dom just for 27 1/2 hrs a week instead of my usual 30-35 hrs as the overtime is not garunteed and like i said when i take annual leave my pay is just basic as by doing overtime we are not able to claim anything.i am a leave reserve and my duties change evry week.

Explain to your Dom you only want to do your contracted hours for the reasons you have given.

But state you are willing to do a little amount of overtime in exceptional circumstances if required for time off in lieu.

This way you are being reasonable and therefore they should be too.

yes i dont mind that but most of the duties in our office if done properly take you over your time even on part time duties you end up booking your break most days.also when they say a full time duty will be prepped for you by the time you get here they never are meaning your gauranteed to go over.im quite happy to do o/t in exceptional circumstances but the amount id accumulate in holidays would mean me being off work for about six months lol.the trouble is they seem to think that by removing sorting from a full time duty it automatically makes it part time and it dosent as some duties are clocking up at 3hrs 30 to 4hrs 30 delivery leaving you an hour to prep your fitting,take your break and actually get to the start point of your walk and back again after.

gb93 gives some good advice.

Now,you are a part timer end of,if you don't want to book then don't book.
I would strongly advise you to see your rep and let him know the score before you tell your DOM,if no joy there go to your area rep.

You will probably get s**t for cutting off so be prepared.

By the way you should get more leave pro rata if your average hours exceeds your contracted hours.
