1 in 4 saturdays?

anyone understand how it can work?
we got 8 or 9 options to which we have to select top 3 choices.
one will have 9 days on 6 days off, one have 1 sat off every 2 weeks + loads of other options,
so we will/could have posties doing all kinds of different shift patterns.
one option that isn't there is for leave reserves,
my problem is over a 4 week shift pattern i could be covering on numerous different shifts and will no doubt get the usual 1 saturday off per year!
the manager can't give me straight answer, he said just wait and see which way we will go, and i could end up with a duty?
but we will always need leave reserves

No you won't.
The majority will choose the duty patterns not the individual......
The idea that everyone will get what they want is and always was a non-starter....it would be as you rightly point out chaotic.
You will have two maybe three different attendance patterns in your office depending on the size and there will be an "attempt" to match leave reserves to their preferred option.

it still dont give a regular slot for me,
the last 3 weeks ive been asked to work my day off the next week before i even know where i am and last week i was rota'd for 2 duties!
i could end up say doing the duty to give me a sat off in 4 weeks time then after 3 weeks get moved onto a duty thats not due for another 3 weeks for the sat off, then 2 weeks later get on a duty thats just had the sat off! you see where im going with this?

I see exactly where you're going because too many leave reserves have been screwed over already with the 1 in 6 Saturdays.
But the Agreement for what it's worth states "Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves)"
So if you don't get 1 in 4 Saturdays off see your rep and make sure you do.

Just had a look at the duty preferences at our office, and there is a pearler, 16 hrs per week, every Monday AND yep - Saturday. I bet they'll be queueing to the town hall for that little gem.

Dont forget any changes at your office depend on 100% attendance, so you will only get 1in 4 saturdays off if you are fully staffed.

HELLO PEOPLE,I,M A PART TIME RESERVE IN A DO IN NEWCASTLE,AND I,M HAVING A BIT OF BOTHERAT THE MOMENT.I,M NOT EVEN GETTING A SATURDAY OFF IN 6 AT THIS TIME,MY MANAGER SAYS I,M A RESERVE AND AM NOT ENTITELED TO IT .COULD ANY ONE PUT ME ON THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW PLEASE.THANKS.I,VE BEEN WITH RM 11 MONTHS.

THIS COULD MEAN THAT 51% will get their 1 in 4 and the other 49% can go and sing for it.
