Losing vans that travel less than 10 miles a day

We had a WTL session today and the Dom told us that we will be losing any van which does not travel more than 10 miles a day. Royal Mail is skint.

She went on to say that we will be required to give up just one at present as to help us make the change easier

We have no spare vans which are not tied to a duty so we all think she,s had a bang on the head
Our reps been spitting teeth all day.

Anyone else get the same speech

i heard this from one of the coaches said in our area they had to loose 60 vans, less than ten miles and they go as well,none of ours do less then that, why are they on about vans when they will need them all for park and loop?

Not sure about losing vans within the 10 mile radius, but i did over hear that offices across the board are to lose vans to keep costs down.

I don't think RM know what they are doing from one day to the next...and i thought we need more vans not less to adhere to the van sharing business?

Can't wait for the next phase of removing cars from delivery its going to be chaos!

"sorry no vans available, you'll have to walk to the start of your duty"

Nationaly R/Mail is to reduce it's fleet by 5%, in our office that mean 2 vans to go by the end of the month.

Some semi rural jobs at ours start about 2 miles from the office cant be done by hct.
so Irrelevant if they travel 9.5 miles.

Wtf is going on with this firm lol.
Losing vans cause we're skint,which we aint,yet there's 10,000 CDV's in a field waiting for us.

Reduce the number of vans that we own outright, make (more) cuts in the maintenance/service section and less capital outlay in purchasing/replacing.

Take on leased vans that are purchased/maintained/serviced by the leasing company for (relatively) short contracts which can be increased/decreased as operations demand.

Sadly, from Royal Mails point of view, you can see the logic in this

Back to the HCT----to get to a number of walks in our office, we'd have to push the trolleys along main roads (no pavements till you get to your walk) this would include pushing it round several roundabouts, and stopping at traffic lights etc---how does this tally with health and safety!

I saw an email a while back that was going on about any vans doing less than a certain mileage a week, should be looked at getting removed.

Luckily, all ours do more than that as they're all rurals. And if they didn't, they'd just give it me to take home to put an extra 60 miles a day on haha

surely they've thought to see how much mail these vans are taking out some of our businesses that are close to the office get sacks full of mail are they going to send a convoy of hct's to each firm
