Re: 2013 wages and beyond
once we are privatised and the machines are running, sequencing the mail, any tom dick or harry can be dragged off the street to do our job. Chaos will ensue, there will be no accountability and tons of stuff will get nicked by casuals getting £6 an hour. RM will implode and be no more, and the dutch TNT flag will be hoisted above old street

Re: 2013 wages and beyond
The minimum wage, whatever that might be in 2013. Always assuming that this shite government hasn't abolished the minimum wage by then.
Also you can forget job and finish. You will be loaded up with whatever the company considers to be 8 hours work and you will complete it. Return early, and you will be given more work. Return late, and forget claiming O/T, it'll be your own fault for being too slow.
Welcome to privatisation.

Re: 2013 wages and beyond
You will see a cyclical delivery model in place whereby you are given an impossible amount of mail to deliver.
Whatever you dont deliver will get done the next day and so on and so forth. You will have to do what you didnt complete first the following day.
This way RM ensures you are working constantly through your paid hours and the delay is minimal as all mail gets delivered in a 24 hour (or so) span.
Quality of service wont matter. Only profits and staff beatings will be important.

Would have thought that the aim of the game is for the CWU to recruit fresh members from these private courier companies and then negotiate parity of wages alongside our own.

such that the only way of getting towards a living wage is to doorstep all the packets and parcels.fishtank wrote:cantbelieveit's... wrote:For goodness sake!!!! At least £15 an hour, but on the down side there will only be half of the work force left

I take it you are aware of the CBI report "Making Britain the Place to Work" brother which contains the gem......brothermagrew wrote:Would have thought that the aim of the game is for the CWU to recruit fresh members from these private courier companies and then negotiate parity of wages alongside our own.
I could provide the link but i suspect it may have been you who first brought my attention to it.Reviewing the implementation of existing EU directives to remove any gold-plating, including of European TUPE rules. Current TUPE laws effectively prevent an employer from harmonising the terms and conditions of a newly-acquired business with its existing workforce. This could mean two employees doing the same jobs but with different holiday and sickness entitlements.
I'm no genius brothermagrew but i suspect the removal of gold-plating would result in us taking on their terms and conditions rather than vice-versa.

Lets not forget brother Fishy that the organisation you quote is a right wing business pressure group with no legislative power whatsoever and a clear commitment to drive wages down to the lowest feasible levelfishtank wrote:I take it you are aware of the CBI report "Making Britain the Place to Work" brother which contains the gem......brothermagrew wrote:Would have thought that the aim of the game is for the CWU to recruit fresh members from these private courier companies and then negotiate parity of wages alongside our own.

Yes brother B but lets also remember that they are all members of the same clubs as those with legislative power and the same clear commitment to drive wages down to the lowest feasible level.BELIAL wrote: Lets not forget brother Fishy that the organisation you quote is a right wing business pressure group with no legislative power whatsoever and a clear commitment to drive wages down to the lowest feasible level
They are a right wing business pressure group with far more clout in Westminster than the TUC ever could have hoped to have over a Labour Goverment.

Re: 2013 wages and beyond
What bugs me about the above piece is the blatent lie contained therein, viz, "...Current TUPE laws prevent an employer from harmonising the T&Cs of a newly-acquired business with its existing workforce..." Why not thank your exisitng workforce for their loyalty, by increasing their T&Cs in line with the new boys? It might mean your profits are reduced, but it's a huge sign of gratitude to your old employees, and it reassures your new employees that you are not out to asset strip and rape their T&Cs, etc.fishtank wrote:I take it you are aware of the CBI report "Making Britain the Place to Work" brother which contains the gem......
