Putting parcels on the driver?

Post by Terry Butcher »

LM: "Sorry, these packets are too small for the driver" *CLUNK* (Sound of packets hitting my frame)

Me: "Really?! That's odd, I've been putting similar parcels on the driver all week, anyway I was thinking more of the weight..."

LM: "Yeah, well, I've just spoke to him and he says they're too small"

Me: :hmmmm

**Waits till LM goes, picks up packets and takes them to driver**

Me: "These too small, mate?"

Driver: "Not at all, give 'em here...Jesus, are these just pure lead?!"

Me: "The LM said that you said they were too small..."

Driver: "B*****s, I've just this minute got back to the office, not even seen him!"

Anyone got any similar stories of LM's sticking their oar in places they don't belong, creating unneccessary problems?

Other way round at my gaff. Drivers constantly complaining about packets and trying to get us to ram them in the bags.

I often say, try fitting it in the van first, if it doesnt fit, I'll take it.

Ha ha, drivers constantly whine in our DO...........I was told 'shoe box size' not telling whether the shoes were for an 18 month old or a 6ft 6 giant. I like to have what I call a bargaining point, I say 'If you take this..I'll take that' and flutter eye lashes. Sometimes it works.....! Unless MH is my driver then he takes anything :Very Happy

I always put out more packets than I would expect him to take, then he gives me back the smaller ones that I would happily take, and he takes the others without whingeing.

My current driver is a completely miserable tw*t who won't take anything voluntarily - so instead of doing deals and taking large stuff that would fit in my bag like I would with all the other drivers, I get absolutely everything I can signed out and he takes more than he would had he just dealt directly with me.

Exact opposite at my DO.
Most drivers wouldn't take out a washing machine if you handed it to them. :Boo hoo!

Incidentally, (for a Pouch):
  • Maximum Packet Weight 1.25kg
  • Maximum Dimensions:
    • 200mm x 200mm x 400mm
      or
    • 310mm x 100mm x 400mm

Those dimensions are comedy, if you put a packet 16"x8"x8" in a pouch along with the other packets you'd have room for about half a bundle of mail. :chuckle

All our drivers moan like hell if it isn't signed by a gaffer.I could have several packets for same house that equate to a very large packet and they still dont budge.I have also had gaffers literally forcing packets into my bag(bending them out of shape)just so they dont have to sign the damned packet because here's what happens,,,,,,,Driver then apoaches LM and says"why the F**K have you signed for this?its tiny!.Im not taking it!.And the LM accepts this. Its crazy, thy hate confrontation with drivers in our place.ut if I say I havn't got time to absorb and finish on time today, they will stand there for 10 minutes arguing the toss with me over it.Maybe im not aproaching them right?.Maybe tomorrow ill try."OI!!! I dont have F*****G time to take absorbtion today!.see how far that gets me lol.

 How very true about Managers forcing packets into bags! It wouldn't be so bad,but all these balshy drivers are always finished early---maybe they should be forced to take the packets under a new form of' packet only'absorbtion!
But again when park and loop comes n, this will be academic--or will it? The one thing I'm not clear on is will' packet duties as we know them go out the door?

"but all these balshy drivers are always finished early" - not here, where drivers rounds take much longer than the bike ones, which only goes to show how things differ from office to office

Packets signed by a gaffer?? What is that about?? If the drivers in our DO had to queue to get linos to 'sign' packets thrown out by walkers we'd never get out in the morning. Where do these office find the time? :confused
