Family friendly ruling?

Can anybody tell me the ruling on family friendly hours(not RM's policy),but the legal version that applies to all UK employers?I am led to believe that if you have children under a certain age,that your employer has to try and help you by fitting your hours around your needs?

I only ask this as i already work a 10hr shift on a saturday,and the MCM is now trying to make a large percentage of us work a 8 hr SUNDAY as well!!Good old RM family friendly eh??

I actually contacted Union Headquaters direct when i took this offer up 8 yrs ago and they sent me out a booklet on it.

My office at the time did make provisons , but in RM's climate now i expect it may be harder and my son is now 12
But I am thinking it may be up to 8-9, I kno when i done it it was only up to 6

From April 2009 the right to request flexible working was extended to parents of children aged 16 and under(18 and under where the child is disabled).

Problem is all this advice is all well and good but you need the union to back you up which won't happen. They are completely in RM's pocket and have no desire to open up the flood gates on an issue like this..... When the last lot of changes which impacted family life were implemented in 2007 we had a massive consultation period with everyone able to put there difficulties to the manager such as collecting or taking children to school etc. Guess how many after the consultation were accomodated NOT ONE!!!..... We lost a lot of good posties then so perhaps they will see being difficult another opportunity to get shut of people buck shee, no matter how good the staff are.....

You right cheetah i'm having problems of my own with that one and Branch is very wary about getting involved but i'm a stubborn b*stard with lawyers in my family so it promises to get....messy.
If they push me out the door it's gonna cost them.
