how much sorting and absorbing do you do?

we are normally called for sorting at 6.30, in my section it can take between 2 and 2.5 hours, the absorbing jobs are split 6 ways but 4 ways on Tuesday so it adds at least 30 minutes on to an already 3 hour walk, with my dely prep and travelling time try and fit that lot into a 7.50minute day.

many in our office absorb(asholes- runners-panickers etc)- i dont, my boss comes up every day and says, overtime today on your absorbtion bit, i say - aye, and hammer em for 1 hour plus, thank you.More and more people are refusing to do it now, more are claiming overtime, its the only way to make them stop it.

Well said Stevie, I was going to put something earlier but couldn't think what to type without getting annoyed.

If there are 100 trays of letters to sort between ten people in the alloted time why should I sort more than ten whilst people like that toss it off and do four or five?

If you do your job,work your hours what does it matter to you how slow someone else is?
There are too many pseudo-managers in Royal Mail for my taste.

The same happens with these full timers who've fallen on their feet and have to throw off a lapsed / spare / part time / uncovered delivery instead of having to go sorting.

While we're up there for two hours they've thrown off one delivery and their own, gone out for several fags, eaten their sandwiches, drank their coffee and done their households whilst if we even think of doing any of that we're stopped in our tracks straight away.

Oddly enough, on the few occasions when I've been asked to throw off another job I've found time to throw off a tray or two of letters too.

The more people that come in early and don't take breaks and take their door to doors home putting them together or putting them together after their duty are crazy, this will give these people the time to absorb. quite frankly I came in at my right time put my door to doors together after my redirections and killing off was done, then told my manager I will NOT be back in time to absorb.
At 2.05 pm I arrive back at my office on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to hear the two lads moaning next to my frame about this is out of order, we are getting out later and later and still have to absorb. I tell them you brought it on yourself coming in early, bagging up before anyone else and leaving the office first. Please don't talk to me about it. but they will do the same tomorrow again. and so will I by not doing the absorption. I can do absorption IF the door to doors are scrapped, (fat chance that will be) or the door to doors I can do if the absorption is scrapped. the ball is in Royal Mails court. but both will NOT happen
The more people that come in early and race out doing the absorption are making it work, when are you ever going to learn ...

You and Stevie agree that it is people like Shimmy that are ruining it for RM but it is actually you two that are ruining it for honest, hard working posties. RM expect us to do a fair days work within our contracted time and most of us do that except the fly like a blue a*sed flea brigade who do more cause they want finished earlier. This in turn puts pressure on those who work at a rate that is ACCEPTED by RM & CWU as the managers see one person completing a tray of letters, throwing a walk off or delivering faster than others and think that is the rate all should go at and because of that it is us who get pressured on a daily basis by management. Some will stand up like Shimmy and refuse to be pressured and get OT but others will take more than they should to keep managers off of their back and all because some posties feel the need to rush round.
What happens if someone faster than you joins RM and management take their speed as the norm and then pressure you into working faster.
We all work at different speeds and do not need fellow posties who want to rush round tell us that we are taking the p*ss.

Wrong....no,
A bit naive...yes....people aren't machines and why you would really care how fast the guy next to you is working is beyond me.
You are not paid to manage him and he certainly shouldn't have to put up with your judgement....that would most likely be harassment.
Let the managers manage.....it's what they are supposed to be paid for.
