Because someone is going to pay billions and billions - more money than has ever existed throughout human history - to get into a marginally profitable, rapidly shrinking market.

Plus, one of these centuries, TNT is going to operate a universal, door-to-door service for social mail.

It doesn't matter how much money they throw in the pot, all that matters is that the people up top secure a profit to fund their greed.

I cant believe people on this forum are quoting the old email is killing post line/lie.
as a fact :d'oh!
the drop in letters has been much exaggerated as much of the drop was due to the downstream agreement
meaning we have to treat it as lost volume even though we still deliver it!
Packets are going through the roof and most are generated by Internet.

Chunk whilst I have always questioned the loss of traffic especially in packets and letters in flat ipks.

However what is not in doubt is that the amount of mail which used to be business to business has reduced dramatically and that has been replaced by email .

Downstream access reduces work on the outward but inward has also reduced as less a pace thats for sure but it has reduced.

Even the Birmingham traffic audit which exposes the fallacy that traffic has dropped at 10% when in reality it has reduced by less but some streams have increased. But lets not beat around the bush overall traffic has reduced as recognised by every country. But without doubt the biggest effect is the amount of work which is done by mech and will be sequenced and in mail centres by ILsms or flat machines with one outward pass and inward pass.

There is the dichotomy really, mail volumes are falling, more work will be carried out by machines and yet there will be protection for full time work and above and beyond that it will be at a ratio of 75%/25% - now I think that some people are living in hope when the reality is much starker.

But dingo answer me this....IWT gives 12 items per minute for prepping meched mail yet only allows 14 items per minute for sequenced mail. Where is the savings here. Most posties on a Sat prep at over 14 items a minute anyway truth be told. But under the new revolution the majority of posties will not get mail til 9:00 on a Sat. The only reasom is that RM has bought these machines so they will damn well use them 6 days a week and to hell with the consequences. There is no logical reason to sequence mail on a Sat yet RM we all know that is what RM will do making every postie in the land think seriouslt about their future. How is that involving and engaging your workforce. With a bit of incentivisation most posties would be able to raise their performance without the need for this wasted investment. And as for removing cycles don't get me started..........

Remember the figures of 12 and 14(if they are correct) are items per minute for the entire prep/redirections/packets/transporting the mail between IPS and your frame and tying up.....so you had better be throwing it in the frame at something like twice that number just to reach that standard.

I think some of you want to understand what the IWT is not

1. It is not an indivdual performance tool , it measures the office performance.

2. There is not set standard as distances to and from IPS frames vary, as do distance to PS lockers. Some have wing prep frames , some have still got the old 48 or 56 sorting frames, some have double slots , some have triple slots .

There are loads of other variations which need to be taken into account including whether your delivery office is multi floored etc.

Remember also the two year revison process is a journey so it does not mean that you have to have 100bsi when you do iwt if you are only at 80 or 70.
