Dawn Shift Allowance

Does anyone know whats happening regarding this Allowance ?

Plymouth delivery office has lost this £23.55 a week , Its been 6 weeks now , adding up to a tidy sum !!!

Nobody has any answers !! All we get is rumours !!

I voted YES on the proviso this was to be retained , and as soon as the new D2D payment came into effect , the Dawn Shift Allowance was withdrawn .

Somebody must know something !!!

Have heard that some other posties lost some allowances without any explanation, whilst others in the same boat are still being paid theirs. What hours were the "dawn shift"

Do the guys that work in the locker room get a higher rate of pay than a postie

Only if they are doing work that attracts a allowance, for example the PM shift locker duty at my D.O is in charge in the afternoons when the collections are taking place and also locks up at the end of the day. Fot that they are paid a allowance.

In terms of basic pay its the same, same Supplement, same shift allowance (if doing a shift that attracts a shift payment)

Higher pay went out the window a decade ago with the introduction of the new OPG grade and the scrapping of the PHG grade.

I sent an email to dave ward over this issue and I got an email back saying the dawn shift allowance should still be being paid. It was only the £12 and £6 allowances that were to be lost in this new deal. Wages have said that because some people were getting the dawn shift allowance under payment protection then they are no longer entitled to it but higher cwu officials have said this is not true and people who were being paid dawn shift allowance are still entitled to it. The cwu are in the process of sorting this out along with other allowances that people have had stopped that shouldn't have been stopped.

3 year protection and nowt in the agreement to say that would end early.

we were told we would get the dawn shift allowance under grandfather rights and it meant we would keep all the time we worked there, nothing was said about it only being for a maz of 3 years. Also under the 3 year payment protection some people in my office were on nights and when the night shift went they got payment protection but they also had a letter sent to them telling them the date that their payment protection would stop but no one had a letter saying when the dawn shift allowance would stop.

Is 0400 starts still in existence at at your D.O?

My D.O had two OPG's on 0400 start when the 0600 came in moved to 0500 start and get PP but we are expecting it to end after 3 years (October this year) and then receive the DS only.

There would be no grandfather rights on the dawn shift allowance as its still exists, only pay protection for 3 years if you loose that shift through a RML imposed change such as that shift being gone when its gets to your pick in a resign or that shift no longer in operation at the D.O.

Grandfather rights was the ESA until such time that that RML/CWU agreed on pay restructuring (part of 2007 agreement)

Pay restructuring was agreed as part of the 2010 agreement.

that should of been made clearer when the CWU roadshow was flogging the deal. A lot of people feel conned because we were told it was the £6 and the£12 payments that were getting the chop in excahange for the delivery supplement.

i i was part time and did this as my duty and claimed adjustment to duty would i get the full allowance unlike the delivery supplement
