Re: CARS ON DELIVERY
Nice one! Many people think they are insured for carrying one bag to and from their delivery because this is what they have been told by the screws. I checked up with the local police and they're not. If someone's car gets screwed, I hope they don't come running to the union.moanalot wrote:To all the posties that use their cars on delivery, have you been assured by your Dom that they will pay for any damage to your cars if you have a accident whislt delivering your mail!Or if your cars are broken into and mail stolen!

It could even invalidate the insurance if you have an accident outside of work and during the investigation they find that you stored or carried mail in it. They could say that as you had broken the terms of insurance previously, then you were not covered at the time of the accident.
Its certainly worth checking into if you do insist on using your own car.

Once when I said I had to work to my time the Lineo said just put more in your pouch and I pointed out it was illegal and that because of the weight I would have to keep going back to the safe drop. He said you cant weight the bag with the drink in it - I pointed out that I am entitled to have a drink with me for H&S reasons and that it must be included as it should be the total weight that I am carrying not just what RM want to include or not. Not sure even now if I was right but they got cover for me and I still weigh the bag with me drinks in it.
Good luck getting the bike - not much use here in Yorkshire far too many hills
I keep a thin waterproof jacket and a 2Lt bottle of drink in my pouch (I don't have a car) and I make sure they are in the bag when I weigh it - no one has told me officially that I can't.i keep drinks and coats in car its handy that way.

When I first started, there used to be a book with guidelines in it for staff. You were supposed to include your waterproofs when weighing a bag.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I keep a thin waterproof jacket and a 2Lt bottle of drink in my pouch (I don't have a car) and I make sure they are in the bag when I weigh it - no one has told me officially that I can't.

You can insure your car for "commuting too and from multiple places of work". It is not expensive and was even free with my current Diesel Ford Mondeo insurance.
I believe you can take your first bag with you but you cannot take any others and you cannot leave mail in the car.
You must also own the car. I don't know why but you cannot be a named driver on the vehicle, not even if you have your own insurance.

I know we've had this convo in the other thread but why the f**k would a postman want an insurance that covers him/her for...
"commuting to and from multiple places of work"

Ie from the f***ing office to a f***ing part of his/her walk!!!!!!!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

is this spedley managerial or what seems to bend toward r.m rather alot no reason for posties to pay for insurance as r.m should be conveying them as it is the weight on delivery has become such that a lot use their own vehicles because they can't carry this much weight over long periods (since introduction sdd) and because of attitudes / harrasment from managers take the easy option and use there own transport

I think you will find you need buisness use 1 added to your insurance it may cost about £20 sometimes free depending on your own insurance company however this does not cover mails in the vehicle at the end of the day this is a car not a RM Vehicle.Spedley wrote:You can insure your car for "commuting too and from multiple places of work". if in doubt ring your insurance they will be happy to help you, ask them how much it would cost if you needed to carry mail etc then sit down before you fall down in shock.
if you use your car on delivery every day how much does it cost you?
Petrol wear and tear
Wet seats when it rains
brake ins when unattended
wear and tear punctures etc
What do your insurance say?
ask your insurance about the cover RM provide you with?
if insured for buisness use 1 ( the cheapest outside of RM) sometimes £20 more on your insurance this does not cover mails carried for work use!
the cover of replacement car while yours is off the road RM insurance does not cover this!
Recovery of your own personal car following damage or accident whilst in work RM insurance does not cover this!
Injury to yourself while carrying mail does yor insurance cover this under RM?
Now for 30 min's early finish would carry on using your car?
If broken into is your vehicle secure to protect contents of letters packets priorities etc?
I would rather take the van than cause an inconvenience to my family car & family would'nt you?

Because afaik it's cheaper than "business use" - which is the only one that'd actually cover you for delivering mail.POSTMAN wrote:I know we've had this convo in the other thread but why the f**k would a postman want an insurance that covers him/her for...
