Do any other part timers have second jobs outside of the royal mail? Im in a uneasy situation where I cannot work walk overtime as I frequently suffer from bursitis in my hip when overdoing it. I work my day off when I can so at best can only work 31 hours a week. I am always wondering how I can work extra hours but cannot think of anything. It would not be worth it to be a taxi driver due to my age (insurance) if I would only use it a few hours a day. I wouldnot be available to work in a bar untill late due to other commitments and it would affect my r.m. job. Has anyone got any ideas?

A lot of the full time guys at my place are driving instructors witch seems to suite them. Obviously you gotta pay out a bit for your training etc.. but might be worth looking at it if you plan on being in Royal Mail for awhile.

Other then that all i can personally suggest is maybe looking at grabbing some afternoon SA's if that's possible for you or failing that have a word with your local rep see if you cant come up with a better attendance pattern. For example we had a guy that went from 5 hour days to 10 hour days freeing up more days off for overtime. I see you have problems when over doing it so maybe 10hr days are not for you but im sure if you get your heads together you might come up with something.

I think there is a little caveat in your contract about having another job which might interfere with your commitment to RM. Be careful you don't get caught and FFS don't run around and cut off to get to your other job!!

I work for the co-operative 10h a week + O/T usually sunday evenings and wed evenings but theres plenty of work if I want it

If you have cash handlint experience betting shops always need evening staff. You'd be looking at 2ish to around 930 as a guide although most will give you hours to suit.

What about Crowd Safety work?
I used to do that at the weekends (Motorsport, Football, Gigs, etc.), before my Daughter was born. You just need to be diplomatic, and have good people-skills. They train you in everything else you need to know. And it's surprising how rarely you face any trouble. Just bear in mind, that it does sometimes kick off. Just not very often.

I think that usually means that you cannot work for a 'competitor'.
AFAIK you can have another job as long as it would not impact on the contractual hours you have with RM.
