Cars on delivery / flyers / job and finish etc

I know that this is a favourite subject on here and is widely condemned but I wish some people would put things in perspective before criticising others.

Most of us are different, have different reasons for doing the job and wanting or needing to finish that bit early.

None of our deliveries are the same either.

But what I think alot of people fail to understand is the sheer geography and planning handed to us on a plate by our overlords at Royal Mail.

I can understand why someone in a town centre or geographically central office would be negative about people using their cars but I don't think their aware how changes in different offices over the country have affected us as individuals.

Our postcode used to be catered for by a delivery office attached to a Mail Centre pretty much slap bang in the middle of the City with jobs in all directions of the compass, equal distance away. The closer ones cycled, the further ones were accelerated out. The only exception being about half a dozen jobs in a southerly suburb which were made into once over the ground rural type jobs.

Ten years ago the delivery section split from the MC and opened two new office, for the north and south, the south being very south whilst the north was at the ass end of a new industrial estate at the very eastern extreme of the area it covered. Even the closest walks to the office are the best part of a mile away from the industrial estate.

How many people who criticize car users are in this type of office?

Just get R/M to take you to your first drop point in a van, do your round to your working day time, and then go home...EASY, ....WORK THE HOURS YOU GET PAYED FOR...

I can see your point very clearly and I would suppose there are many offices in a similar geographical situation.
However the long winded argument about the use of private cars on delivery is now slowly coming to a close. Under the new agreement and based on the park and loop revision both the Union and Royal Mail have agreed that car use will be banned and therefore this debate will go away all by itself.

I'm sure it will but it just annoys me when I read about people getting slagged off for using their cars / initiative without having the vagaries of the situation taken into account.

Personally, my day takes me in a triangle of sorts. I drive four miles to the office in the morning, my delivery is four miles back towards my house, although not in the same direction, so I drive out and have just two miles to get home, rather than going back four miles then going home four miles.

The new way of working will be a culture shock.

I believe if the whisper is right, my Office will probably close soon along with other Offices and be merged into a super out of town delivery office with parking spaces for all the CDVs, all will be going out on delivery in them and back.

you are the same people that don't take breaks and come in early, yes i came in early and ran around during job and finish but not anymore my friend.

Job and finish has gone, our employer thought we would carry on working at that speed and they would get extra work out of us when the carrot was gone, not me, i'm not stupid, now i come in on time and have a break, hell i even feel better for it, but we have a problem, people like you that still run around working hours for free and using private cars to save money for RM, then DOMs expect me and others to to continue to work at your pace, I'm tired of you and people like you, harsh but very true!

working out my car i get paid my last 2 hrs when i,m home having a kip,yeah its not gonna last but so what,i,ve had a good few years out of it!!

Well said ......I agree it is easier to use your car and go straight home but it's because of this that we're losing jobs, have summer lapsing and have some people being bullied into doing duties that are only able to be completed because people use cars. If your delivery is far from the office then cycle out or bus out or get omv out if this means you're now unable to finish the delivery on time then it's up to management to sort it out. On that note how manay managers would sort it out? they'd just leave it to the postman to resolve the problem or let it continue. Posties are running around trying to get jobs done because managment dont solve the problem.
