20 hour contracts delivery the way forward

20 hour contract delivery mon-fri only 010-00am-14.00pm
just had a starter, 3 days training last week.
2 days live last week supposed 3 1/2 hour delivery 1/2 hour tying up
16 30 finish thursday, 17.00 friday manager assist to complete
interview in office monday instructed to speed up or else
almost had a fit when instructed to insert d2d for delivery and talking about finding another job
Is this really the right strategy for a company that is supposed to set the standard and ultimately
to become a world leader?
The industry leaders should be made to undertake deliveries for a week solid to understand exactly
what they expect of their workforce and then and only then will realistic and achievable targets be set
until then keep interviewing because you will waste an awfull lot of training on people who cannot achieve
what is expected of them now and into the future
badly employed people cost a lot of money and provide nothing towards profit the ultimate goal

RM is clearly going down the shop route, as long as the staff they bring in are reliable, they won't mind if your a 8 hour contract or 40 contract. Part-time job is on the way guys.

Why are the managers jumping down the new starters neck after a couple of days? Bang out of order!

Especially when any overtime done by a new starter is labelled "training" and therefore does not directly affect the deopt's budget...

Not to mention I would insist that the walk is proved for a complete week that its possible to all required tasks in a four hour shift per day, with verification that the frame is in the same state of readiness at 1100 for the proof-timing as that when the new starter normally arrives.

Out of curiousity, what time did the walk get finished during the training days? Thinking back to my training, day1 was basically me following walk-familiar postie around whole route; day2 we split roads doing a side each (and finished round in ~2.75 hours with no break on a Tuesday), day3 I was observed by walk-familiar postie (~4 hours).

When I did my current bigger walk for the first time, I think I was out there until almost 1700, having finally left the depot at 1100! Over time it now averages 4.5 hours including meal relief, with my quickest day being 3hr5mins on a freakish Monday when I only did 20% D2D at best (whereas now I take at least 50% on Mondays, often closer to 75%, so I do not finish too early plus it makes the pig days easier)...

RM is full of ops mangers who have no real training or skllls in leadership or mangement.

I remember when I first started. After about 6 weeks, the postie doing the second delivery on my round was still passing me. And walks were only 2.5 hours then.

Out of 12 new starters a few months back half left after a couple of weeks,the rest are bullied into doing overtime to complete and "get quicker or we'll get someone else who can do the job!"
What the royal mail hierarchy don't realise is it takes about 6 months till your up to speed with everyone else,they don't realise how fit you have to be to do the job in the time allowed.20 hours might work on paper BUT I can never see them getting the % of part time staff they want to put up with the treatment they inevitably get from the useless lino's.

Never mind that, where's all the yummy mummies that RM were expecting to fill these jobs?? All the guys in our DO were very disappointed when 3 hairy fellas started

Btw, the 3 new 25 hour guys have now been 'rotated' onto each other's walks, I see a new sett forming........................(and its nothing to do with badgers you wise asses!)
