Shared vans: people conflicts

Shared van working is based on two employees sharing a vehicle to deliver the mail for two routes. This method will be new to many people, appealing to some, but possibly unattractive to some. Whilst we do not envisage this should be a common occurrence there is the potential for clashes of personality to arise and, these issues will have to dealt with sensitively.

The best way of resolving these will be to talk with the individuals (separately if necessary) in an effort to get the bottom of the issue and find a mutually acceptable solution. In some cases it may have to be accepted that the only way forward is to find another pair who are willing to swap one person into a paired route.

Well i would make it quite plain from the start that i was not prepared to run around to make 30 mins and feel knacked for the rest of the day. So unless they want to do more than me they will have to work to a reasonable pace and live with it.

He can do three quarters of the delivery and i will do the other quarter.
I don't think it will take long to get the message across but......

I am actually really easy going and normally end up getting pissed on But my delivery with absorbtion can run to 5 hours out the office and it wears me out so there is no way i am going to end up with back or leg pains to try and get round these double deliveries any quicker

I was talking to my Rep about this the other day. I don't mind being paired up with a runner, I just don't want to be paired up with someone who I don't really like. I get on with most people at work but there are a few I would'nt want to work with.

I prefer to work at MY pace, and on my own..simple....and anyone I share with has to do that, I start on time and finish on time...simple

So if anyone wants to run around, then sit in a van (especially in this heat) waiting for me thats up to them, Oh and I hope they like a meal break too.

Most people in my office ,now veiw 2 men and a van could be a good thing ,as long as you are paired up with the right person.

Most days on most busees you have to wait for someone either in he morning or at finnish,if you were with someone the same speed as yourself their would be no waiting around.So much time is lost waiting around.

tricky to do
okay for those with good seniority but as you go down the list the pickings get slimmer
plus you have to remember once a non driver picks a duty then the partner must be a driver
so regardless of seniority the non drivers choices will be limited as the list gets smaller

its not just age ,ability etc.
the distribution of packets and recorded for arguments could be easily one sided.

i'm hoping i get a runner with me because after nearly 40 years doing the job i'm slowing down rapidly so if one of these clowns who comes in early and runs around like a lunatic to finish early ends up with me it will be funny.
this 2 to a van will prove to the runners that the days of running round to finish early wont work so hopefully they will get the message and work their hours,take their breaks and finish on time.

we have already had near punch ups in the office over guys being at different paces
theres guys feeling pressure to skip breaks etc
thankfully(hopefully) the core of us taking our break etc provide enough support for them
doesnt matter ot me.ive made it clear i work my hours and not a second more

I thought that shared vans were meant to be 3 old duties spilt between 2. Hence the 4.5-5 hour delivery spans.
Whatever it is, as it's coming from RM/CWU it is not in our favour.

Come our long awaited revision i will most likley be giving up driving as i no longer think the pro's out way the cons.
There is going to be huge issue's with van sharing so i will try to avoid that as well.
If all goes well i will go back to a HCT plain and simple as there is only so much you can get in a trolley so they can stick all the Ebay parcels.

A. All mail will be taken out in one go in vehicles, and it’s likely that this will apply for powered trolleys too. It’s possible that some HCT routes may require a small level of replenishment on the delivery.
