Heard a rumour today that 'new relationship' is at breaking point. CWU and RML are no closer to agreeing any of the values in the 'agreed' tools. RML wants/needs to push ahead with revisions CWU HQ saying do not agree anything which uses the new tools. All revisions are to be on indefinite hold. Reps no longer can discuss anything other than Phase 1 and 2 of new revision process. (phase 1 Agree terms of reference, objectives, preference exercise ; phase 2 data gathering/check) Can dingo et al make any comments on this????????

With the recent history it's not really a suprise is it?

On a positive note my line manager came back from a course saying an inderpendant company had trained him and others in a better way of speaking to and managing people, seems RMs managers at the top are really trying to change things, the problem we have is the middle managers being DSMs and cluster DOMs need to get on board too and forget the Crozier mantra, fingers crossed we are going in the right direction, time will tell.

Jessica I dont know who has told you that but that is not what I have heard.

Divisional Reps are going to be upskilled on the IWT , Geo route and all the other delivery tools on monday and tuesday.

My understanding is that the union is happy with the contents of both but want to test a couple of issues within a live enviorment.

In terms of the relationship stuff I believe that they had a national deployment group meeting last wednesday and that protentially there is a way forward on some pay issues which will hopefully come out next week. Equally on the phasing in all revisons in big offices there is a protential way forward.

It is true that Royal Mail are disappointed at the lack of revisons being deployed but thats in the main due to their lack of planners and the fact that a lot of divisions are currently undergoing mail centre reviews.

So unless you know something different then no , it is not in danager of coming off the rails.

No sign of any changes down here - at all.

Unofficial word from up high is it could take 3 years or more to get everything done - if it comes in at all.

Rumour has it that most of the managers are unhappy with the proposed longer saturdays attendance patterns and are sceptical as to the vailidity of park and loop. Ive spoken to one manager personally who has said it couldnt possibly run smoothly in inner city areas due to the high volume of flats and other non LWT/HCT compatible properties. He also stated shared PDA's would be a 'nightmare' as would 1pm SD's, but that Royal Mail would "do it anyway and iron out any problems on a hit and hope basis just like they always have".

Lack of storage space for 60+ vans and all the other equipment is also a major talking point.

Not looking good here, but then it hasnt really been a nice place to work for years.

But in RM we are in "Mid Yorkshire" - at least we were when I last checked, in the CWU we are "North East Division" - Which is strange as we don't class our selves as North East, and there is no such place or county as Mid Yorkshire

Anyway why cant RM and the CWU have a similar regional structure in titles at a minimum and organisationaly to ease the problems caused by cross overs of territory.

TBT in 1992 when the industrial relations framework was first introdcued we both had the same divisions and mirrored each other.

However whilst the CWU have remained with the same divisonal set up Royal Mail moved to areas then regions.

They have adopted TQM which means they will constantly change their structure and it would not be right if the CWU structure had to change every time Royal Mail change their struture.

TQM has been around for over 20 years and Royal Mail have traditionally done it badly but the whole point of world class mail ( read it in the agreement ) is to ensure continuous improvement ie the upper decile.

So whats so funny about TQM
