Anyone lack prep time in the mornings?

Myself and quite a few others in our office, are noticing the increasing lack in prep time when we come in at 9.

Less and less is being done on the fittings before we come in, flats being left (on Thursday all of them), packet bags still hung up, redirects to do, kill offs, and not to mention the time for prepping our D2D's. As you will be aware, it's not a 5 minute job, bandup and out the door...

What response do I get when I tell a manager of the issue: "Be flexible". Is flexible, doing a large part of the job I shouldn't have to do?

Even some of the experienced guys/women, are not getting out of the office until damn near 10 and some even later, and this can also affect van drivers if they decide to wait around for us (not all will, but I don't blame them).

Our rep is well aware of the problems, he's off at the minute, he's a good guy when trying to sort things for us, unlike a few reps you hear of on here, he has our best interests at heart and is not cosy with the managers.

I might sound like a moaning case at the minute, but there isn't a lot to cheer about at present!

If you work to time and don't rush around you will have to bring some back, just let him know before you go out. After a few days I'm sure your frame will be a priority for him

They are paying plenty of overtime at the minute so that might eventually sway them. (An hour every day this week)

I agree with realitybites, work to your time and if you can't get it all done, your frame will become a priority. As for van drivers waiting, well tough! If you're the last one left and need a lift out then guess who will have to do it - yes, your manager! You are obviously coping with the work one way or another so start doing things properly so you show the up the problems on your walk as regards prep time. That way the manager will have to listen and your union rep will be able to help you. All the time you are running around getting the job done by cutting corners you're not really helping yourself. Btw why not ask the person who is supposed to prep your walk why he is not doing the work?

Might just do that, unless it's a full timer who goes out on his lapsing at 8am!

Don't be scared of these people mate, try not to be bullied into covering up. I know its hard to get everything done but its often because we do nothing that these people carry on getting away with it. you might not mind and find a way of coping but what about your cover? Set an example and you might just find you get a touch more respect

Thats it, its obvious not enough people are doing the job properly, if they were some days going over your time and either bring it back or book overtime would be on the increase. If both these situations start to increase then even the top spanners at RM will click that thier new fantasy ideas aint going to plan and may eventually do something about it.

Sounds like the whole offices indoor working needs overhauled. You should all be about equal. No-one should be leaving the office at 9 or 930 if peeps are not fully thrown in.

You dont say what hours you do, 25??

Got to say 5 hours should be enough if you have at least all the mail thrown in.

No-one, not even 25hr staff get packets and redirects done for them.

In our office all full time staff do IPS then prep 2 frames including packets and re-directions for 22.5 or 25hr contracts.

sounds different to our office, we have,,,,
40 hours that throw their own frame and ips or throw another frame(start to finish,even bundled up in some cases)
30 hours that throw their frame and do their walk.
25 hours that come to there frame and should have had their coded and ips thrown in(this gives them an hour for large,packets and bundling up.
20 hours that in THEORY should come in and have there bundles ready to go.however when I was on this duty it ranged from,absolutly nothing been put in frame at 10am,to bundles ready to go.I used to hate it as you never knew what you were going to walk into.Im on 30 hours now and over the moon at being the one to throw my own frame off.
Anyhow,none of the above mentioned duties run like clockwork due to the piss poor management team we currently have.

On Tuesday, when I start later at 0930, the pressure is horrible. Typically I have to do the following before being able to start my walk:-

Final clear-down of IPS
Double-check parcel frame is clear
Back-face 30-50 addresses for parcels
Redirections
Collect 5-8 specials from cage
Lay out my specials and ~10 recorded over teh frame bench, then log each parcel in daily form and back-face addresses
Put 20% of the weeks D2D in at all costs (100 drops)... If management are going to put pressure on me starting late, I'm not going to help them by not doing enough D2D, so I will get overtime most Tuesdays (line manager always informed)
Bundle up and load my tank trolley to ~80% capacity

I usually do well to be out the door by 1030 and typically get back approaching 1500, having taken my meal relief allowance of 20 mins (plus usually extra 10 mins for going past 1430.

Just started a few weeks ago and have been put on a killer walk that nobody wants - 470 houses with long drives and tons of mail and parcels, supposed to be finished (and including break) by 2.20 however nearly every day 3.30. Friday was the final straw - 4.25, going in next week and telling them cant do the overtime anymore due to childcare arrangements and see what they say. Any pointers on this?

What should I really be doing in the morning starting at this time as feel they are really taking the mickey now.

same as i didi
its not every day but i tried asking them on the days i required a sharp finish
got no help
so just told them that due to my OH's new hours i couldnt work over
you will get grief and will have to take a hard line
however once they realise you wont work over it easy done
no point of shafting you if they know you wont complete

in your situation they will soon realise they need to get your walk squared away if they want it completed

back in tomorrow and just going to say childcare unable to accomodate the extra hours now which is true
