Possible "Mosquito Alarm" on Round

I'm certain I'm faced with one of these on my round, and it's really annoying. As soon as I come onto the drive of the house I suspect having one, my ears are hit with high pitched screeching. It's happened everytime I've entered the property, and starts ringing when I approach to the door, and stops when I'm about 30 yards from the house.

I can't see any boxes on the house that resemble an alarm, but surely it can't be coincidence that it's happened 3 days in row? (Been on it for 3 days).

I'm only on it for 2 more days I think, so only 2 headaches to go!

I have come across something like this. The device looks like an infa-red sensor with a small speaker. I think they are supposed to scare off cats. Annoy the hell out of me.

On a positive note
These cat deterrents operate at a frequency that is on the edge of human range.
older folk often cant hear them because thats the part of hearing that goes first...
I'm reassured when i hear the irritating squeak.

I have the same problem with those damn anti-youth things some shops use. I can't remember what they're called. But they're intended to stop groups of teenagers hanging round in front of the shops. Thankfully, my local shop only switches it on, if there are some hanging round. But there are others, that I just can't go in. Because they leave them on, and it gives me such a bad headache! I can cope for a couple of minutes, but that's about it. And as for it only affecting young people: If I can hear them at 38, then they're a bit out on their calculations!!!!!

I presume that these anti-mosquito things work on the same principle. Thank God none of my neighbours have one.

This was discussed on the Jeremy Vine show, and it seems that a percentage of Adults as well as teenagers and animals can hear them.

What worries me more than the fact that it affects me. Is that if it has the same effect on Teenagers and Children, as it does with me. Then it's a very cruel way to deter them. The headaches are terrible! I'm just glad my local shop has had the decency to only use it when they really need to. For a while, I couldn't shop there!

Before I first encountered one. I saw a demonstration of one on the telly, where they changed the pitch enough for everyone to hear. It didn't sound too bad then. I think it's the pitch, more than the sound that causes the problems.

I saw the alarm today, it must be motion sensative because when I waved my hand infront of it to test it, it went off.

I have one on my walk it hurts when it goes off. It's weird how it sounds as well, it's not like a normal sound that you get a sense of direction from where it's coming from it's just there and it hurts

There not on every round..
:a certain sort of customer ....
:affluent suburbia
:slightly obsessive about their lawn and their marigolds.
They got a vendetta against cats for shitting in their flowerbed.
uptight and think of themselves as slightly above the crowd.
