D2D opt out cancelled

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before. I've had a quick look,but can't find it posted anywhere.

Since the introduction of the 4 D2D into normal mail, all my customers who had previously opted out of receiving this rubbish through their door, have now had there opt out cancelled by Royal Mail.

Having received complaints from my customers, I know that they did not out back in, I also know that Royal Mail didn't have to courtesy to inform them their opt out was being cancelled.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

This has been mentioned on here before,why would RM cancel the opt out?

Is this official though or just a few managers brown nosing?

Last time this was posted did we not find out that you have to renew your opt out every 2 years.

my DOM said we have to deliver, he said he was at a meeting last week and the question was asked and the reply that came back was we have to deliver as they are live mail now..................he agreed with me when i said that it was wrong but as it came from above we now have to deliver to all addresses,
when i asked if they could opt out again he was unsure

The only reason I can see for RM cancelling the opt out, is to make sure that D2D (or whatever we now call them) get delivered to more properties.

My line manager tells me that the opt out, now has to be renewed every year. Just a shame nobody told the customers, that the system was changing. That would have saved a lot of complaints.

I think most of my effected customers have reapplied for an opt out, although one was so annoyed he was writing to BBC WatchDog.

My area union rep, says he has had several other complaints from other offices.

Krussel says renewed every two years, Ihb says every year, yet the mailing Preference Service which surely covers this only requires a renewal every five years.

Thanks for the welcome Krussel, I have been here quite a while, but normally I just read & learn from other postings, this time I couldn't find what I was looking for.

We get a sheet every week telling us how many d2d's we have and any opt outs. The duty I am on still has the 6 which have been there for over 3 years AFAIK.
It looks like different rules in different areas apply for some strange RM reason.

It is wrong, even PROPER mail can be refused.

Ditto we are sing the old style control sheets and the Opt Outs on my duty are still listed as such.

I am surmising that a Manager is so nervous about having to explain returns he is hoping that this will solve his problem.

Just thought when you get on to your duty tomorrow check the boxes that the D2D comes in it should say how many are down for your duty. If you know how many are on it then you will know if opt outs are still being logged at the bundling centre.

We got issued with updated Opt out's the other week. Special instruction type things in the redirection plastic sleeve things.

It's got to be reapplied for every two years. The MPS requires reregistration I think but that doesn't cover opt out of D2D. It just stops people "cold mailing" with addressed junk.

The whole opting out procedure so needs major media coverage. When i deleivered 4 lots last week, every single customer was fed up with pizza promotions and alike, yet they had no idea that opting out was even possible... in theory!

I've opted out now that my postie doesn't get paid per item. I never bothered before because I'd rather he had the money.
