Well it was yesterday actually, but as it was an induction day I'll count today as my official first day.
To be brief I thoroughly enjoyed it. I work with some great blokes and have a manager that really seems to have his teams' interests at heart. I've got my driving assessment tomorrow.

First day..
I staged a Roger Moore impersonator festival in my local village. There were a lot of eyebrows raised, I can tell you.

Give it time, all new starters are treated like royalty, soon you'll be on the hardest walk in the office for a few weeks to see if you can hack it.........then you'll pissed about left right and centre, come back and tell us if you still like it in 6 months, we'll all be intrigued to know your reply!! lol

I think I enjoyed the job for about the first year, then the rot set in with strikes, revisions to T&Cs etc. Maybe the latest recruits won't think it's that bad as they have no previous reference point - after all, lots of other jobs expect you to do overtime for no pay, to be messed around and to be given no thanks for the hard work you put in. :mfo

I am glad you enjoyed it.
You never really forget your first day i can still remember mine 23 years ago. 
The job is not perhaps anything like it once was but can still be rewarding working with the lads and esp if you like working outdoors. Take your time and try not too get stressed in the first few weeks thinking your working much slower than everyone else.
Good luck with the driving. There was a post a few days ago about the assesment which might be worth a look.

I'm in my fourth year and have no intention of looking for another job. I think it's those with many years service that knew the good old days who hate the job now.

I had my driving assessment today, all went well. My 2 weeks of training has become one week so from Monday I'm cut loose as our firms driver. I've got a small walk plus all packets and signed stuff for 5 postmen. I also do their bag drops. Apparently its the firm nobody wanted!
