Redirection FAIL

Got twenty minutes into my walk today, and recognised a name on a letter which for whom I KNOW there's a redirection. Suddenly reaslised I had not done ANY of my redirections this morning! I did think I'd gotten out of the office in record time..... Looking forward to a whole bunch of complaints and a right royal bollocking in the morn.... Piss.

Anyone else done anything as blindingly stuipd lately?

One of our new starts got confused one morning and wrongly delivered mail for 45 houses onto someone elses delivery,would have been 75 if he hadn't run out of houses! He said he didn't think the street looked familiar,it was his third day on it!

Had a stupid moment a couple of weeks ago. 'Twas a hot sunny day, and I had gotten to almost the end of my walk with no 'form lefts', but I had one packet left. There was no answer at the door, so I decided to see if there was anywhere in their back garden to hide their packet and then stick a card through telling them where it was. Anyway, I reached through the wrought iron gate to unbolt it with my right hand, which was also holding the packet at the time, when from out of nowhere within the garden comes a very angry dog. Predictably, the fright caused me to drop the packet in the garden, which the dog quickly scooped up into its mouth before running off into the middle of the garden. The packet seemed to have a strange calming effect on the dog though, as it was just standing there in the middle of the garden, packet in mouth and tail wagging, so I mustered some courage and managed to coax it back over to the gate. Reaching through the gate, I was anticipating a tug of war that would leave the packet looking like a chew toy, but the dog gave it up without a fight, and I finally form lefted it and went on my way.

I've done it several times. Usually I realise before I leave the office and take out the sheet of paper which lists the redirections. Once or twice I have done the whole delivery without realising my mistake. Fortunately I usually only redirect about 6 letters and most of those are junk so the damage is minimal.

Funny you brought this up as I went out one day without doing the redirections this week.

Stupid mistake by me and my only poor excuse was that I was directed by a manager to prep some lapse delivery and it broke my normal routine. I realised about a third into the delivery and shot back to one house with an outside box to retrieve a letter. I think I got them all.

We had a casual once deliver 3 blocks of flats ALL the wrong road He came back and complained that the map the Dom had given him did not make sense. They both went back out and spent an hour leaving "sorry" cards and trying to get the mail back The rest of the walk was offered as double overtime and grabbed up

Has happened to me. Not my fault though. My DOM told me everything was prepared for me ready to bag up as I got in the door, so naturally I just tie up and bagged up and out the door.

I once did a line of a walk on o/t. Manager said it would be prepped for after I did my walk, all I had to do was to come back, bundle it up and go, which I did. When I got out delivering it I found the tw@t who had prepped it had simply stuck the redirections into the slots with the mail.
I ended up having to stop in the p*ssing down rain four times sorting out which letters should be delivered and which should have been redirected. Then I stomped back into the office and slapped 4 sodden redirections and 7 or 8 letters down on the manager's desk. I told him what had happened and it turned out the tw@t who had prepped it was the manager!

On a couple of occasions new starts at my place ahve actually DELIVERED the redirection cards.

Its easily done, especially by part-timers. Many are asked to come in at 0930, which at the moment is not long before "right of way" is bellowed (yet never on a Saturday, curiously) or even after the full-timers have gone.

This creates tremendous pressure right from the start of the working day, especially if these employees are on evil walks with specials deadlines to worry about. Not tot mention other variables like D2D not having been prepped when 16% or 20% is obligitory each day now, in effect for a measy sum of ~11 squids, wopee doo!

With such a late 0930 start, these part-timers are lucky to be out of the door by 1015, but often later...

I know someone who delivered a divider. The big heavy green plastic divider that makes up the slots on a frame.

I took one out with me not so long ago, didnt deliver it mind.

Just put it back in the pillar box.

I've done that too, not actually delivered it but brought it out and felt like a complete idiot when I found it

So have I and probably most on here, but its not a personal failing its a sad indictment on the quality of RM fittings that a plastic divider can be removed from a fitting so easily that the officer does not notice.
