went earlier in the year , food and facilities good, bedrooms basic , need to use alvescot internet codes if you use internet on phone or laptop pc , easy enough to do ...... they encourage evening get togethers in the bar area , not a place for tv addicts .

Smileski,

Went early this year its very nice, plenty of food, tea / coffee, and if you fancy a walk in the evenings the grounds are nice.
All rooms are individual, with a bed, desk, shower toilet and sink, and a wardrobe.
If the RAF are on form then early flights out of RAF Brize Norton will wake you, also if they are landing whilst the class is on, then the class is halted as you cant hear anything.

For phone signal, unless you are on vodaphone then the signal will be poor, but dont worry many people have a walk around the gardens trying to get a decent signal.

Apart from that you should enjoy it, what course are you doing?

Members do - how else do you train reps to be as good as they can be.

Complain about the bad reps if you want, and complain about "jollies" as well but if you want good reps you have to make sure they are equipped well enough to represent their members and deal from a position of strength with Management. Don't have proper training and education and you'll ensure poor representation and poor local agreements. Depends what you want I suppose.

Planes, lots of them.

The lodge is next to RAF Brize Norton.

The bar area opens after dinner, but there is a chiller cabinet in the Kitchen section where you can purchase beer/wine with your dinner.

There is a open plan dining area and go the kitchen area to get your food.

Breakfast is toast, cereal and cooked breakfast. The toast and cereal is ready before the cooked breakfast.

Lunch is usually a self service affair

Dinner is a cooked meal with pudding :cool

There are also morning and afternoon tea breaks.

There is a tea/coffee vending machine on free vend, however it produces a piss poor cuppa of tea. Stick to the pots of tea at break time.

When I first became DOR My training was at Elstead Hotel (90's) I think at the time I was the only women on the course.

It was good, sadly I had to give up being a rep, but just started to dip my toe back in,

Good luck

The lodge was purchased by the POEU I belive many many years ago, late 1960's I think. POEU became NCU (now the telecoms side of the CWU) who merged with the UCW (now the postal side of the CWU)

If the POEU had not had purchased the lodge we would not be discussing it right now.

Having lived in the area and played footie for Alvescot (Ground used to be right behind the lodge) I can tell you that you are right at the end of the Brize Norton runway and VC10s are the noisiest bloody aeroplanes you could wish to hear. The good thing is though, there is a good pub just a stones throw away called The Plough.

What course are you doing, one thing you can expect is reps from the telecoms side of the CWU, unless your doing a postal agreements and procedures course.
