Hi folks would like some advise
I handed in my notice this week and I'm due to finish on sat however today I received a letter from HR saying that my money was being recalled from the bank due to 3.5 days holidays over paid and was not entitled to.
I have been with the company for 4 years and never used all my holiday entitlement this year I was forced to take 3 weeks holiday in May which would have left me 1week 2.5 days to take. However like the good book says I was working my notice period and all of a sudden i'm due royal mail time.
Now last year the whole units holidays were lost due to a computer crash and the manager called everyone to confirm how much leave we had taken and how much we were still to take so how can i be due RM money. Oh and another thing called pensions to get my contributions back and they said no can do as I have paid in for over 2 years and they would hold the pension for me Just seems we are shafted at every turn.
Should I continue to work my notice or just throw the fekin keys at them only advise please as humour is lost on me at the moment.

Re: Notice Period
Sorry Bad News all round but here goes. Don't forget though this is personal not professional advice, you might want to check it with HR or the CWU.
Holidays are based on how long you have been working/or intend to work at RM (usual practice everywhere). So if you were at RM for the full 52 weeks you would get the full entitlement. When you hand in your notice they work out based on how long since the start of the leave year you have been at RM and if you have taken more than that you owe them, if you haven't they can either pay you or let you take the leave outstanding.
Last years holiday wont have any effect on this years entitlement, or your notice period, unless you carried some foreward. You could ask for a list of the holidays they say you took and see if agrees with your memory but the chances of this offsetting the amount they want back is marginal to say the least.
2 Year Pension limit is correct as well
You can transfer the pension you have accrued to another one but make sure you get independent advice before you do as even just 4 years of paying in your unlikely to get the same return from a private pension.
Don't leave early either as you may end up owing them even more money. Just work your notice and do everything by the book.

Re: Notice Period
WHS ^^^
I'm applying for other work and know I'll end up owing them holiday money if I leave before October because I've had 2 weeks off already this year (go me!). I'll have only accrued 1 week so far.
And as I only have to give one weeks notice, it doesn't give them much opportunity to get the money back besides recalling it from the bank.

Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Seriously though thank you for that message, it does mean a lot, as honestly and truthfully helping people is the main reason I contribute, but some may disagree

Re: Notice Period
Out of interest tora, how much redundacy pay are they giving you for being with the company for 4 years? I'm four years in myself and was wondering how much I would get if lark & poop and all the other revisions become the final straw for me.

Re: Notice Period
Well i took the advice given by TBT and went into work today and will go in tomorrow for my final day.
Don't want to stoop to the managers infantile level and still leave with my dignity and integrity intact, as for what they offered me in redundancy is the grand sum of nowt they will hold onto my pension until i move it or it will be preserved for me until im entitled to it .
So one more 6 hour shift tomorrow and i can leave the lies and backstabbing behind me

Re: Notice Period
I never signed in as I was a satellite office working away from the DO but i do out of habit save all my year planners and I have trawled them only to find out that
because I was forced into taking 3 weeks hols this May I had not accrued the amount of days that I had to take so 3.5 days have been taken off me because of that fact. I don't want to cry in my beer about it but would warn anyone who is planning on leaving check out if you owe them anything first.

According to the VR Compensation Ready Reckoner which HR sent to everyone in my office in 2008 (I don'twiganpostie wrote:Out of interest tora, how much redundacy pay are they giving you for being with the company for 4 years? think its's changed since then) you would get 26 weeks pay for 4 years service, regardless of age.
