Yep, same in our office...

We can have the 1 in 4 off as long as we lapse more walks on saturdays.

These are the attendances that IMHO would work in my D.O and will form the basis of my discussions with the DOM on attendance patterns for the D.O.

Th reason for having options other than 1 in 4 is that the 1 in 4 is for those who want them, which means having alternative viable duty structures in place for those who do not want/cant manage 1 in 4 saturdays off.

For example for some of the mbrs at my D.O it would mean thier wife's making alterations to their working patterns which will proably not be possible.

1) Current 5 day week fixed day off system

2) As option 1 but collapse 1 in 4 duties every Saturday thus giving, 1 in 4 Saturdays away from work. (Hours normally worked on Saturday would be transferred to the 3 Saturdays at work , hours over the 4 weeks even themselves out)

3) 1 week off in 6 (Wallington) works by floater covering duties a week at a time rather than a day at a time. Provides 1 in 6 Saturdays away from work.

4) 5 day week with rotating day off providing 1 in 6 Saturdays away from work.

5) EXAMPLE 6 on national options: 4 day week with 1 in 3 Saturdays off would need increased outdoor work or PM period collection work currently performed on S/A. SA hours from PM collections could be redeployed as a day off cover thus minimizing or eradicating any loss of earnings. S/A could be attached to duties or stand alone. This type of duty would have an extra but shorter break; some of the 40 min break could be put with the 2nd break.

6) 9 day fortnights (six and three or five and four) six and three gives 7 consecutive calendar days off over a 4 week period whilst five and four gives various week days off with every fourth week working out as FRI/SAT/MON off. Details are shown on the national menu of options. (Options 1,2 and 3)

7) Collapsing of firm’s duty on Saturday frees up a Saturday off to be rotated via both firms duties.

8) 2 in 6 Saturdays off in 5 day rotating day off system, this is shown as Example 5 on national options; Sat part timer cover shown in this option would be replaced with the Saturday S/A duty.

Options 1 to 4 and option 8 are six person duty sets.

Option 5 is a three person duty set; Option 6 is a four person duty set.

Option 7 is two duties/OPG’s only.

The question is Daz just how many different attendance patterns are viable in one office?
If everyone in my office gets what they want then we may need Stephen Hawking to resource the office every week.
So the question really is how do you decide who has their particular aspirations met and who gets rolled over?

That depends on the number of staff in each D.O to a certain extent and how many want any given duty option.

For exampe if 3 people want the wallington in my D.O it wont happen as we need 6 people minium to create just 1 wallington duty set.

Another example is say if the number of people needed to have a duty set of each option came to lets say 65 people and a D.O had only 50 people then somethings gota give.

Well there's that for a start and then there's the workplan and the mail arrival times.
How can you justify half your office on a 10hr day if you don't have any mail until 6.30?
How can you have all your part-time staff working fri,Sat,Mon and ALL of your full-time staff in on a tue and wed when there is sod all work for them?
A lot of members are under the impression they can just pick what they want off this menu but the realities are a little different.
