Non-Addressed Mail Work Moved Into Normal Workload From This Week
24th June 2010
Non-addressed mail - previously known as "door-to-door" work - was put into normal workload this week as had been planned in the new national agreement that was concluded back in April.
Business Transformation: 2010 and Beyond retains every penny of the monies that were previously paid out under the old "winners and losers" system of payment, but now shares these payments out equally among all delivery workers.
0"The agreement also protects this valuable and profitable workstream, allows Royal Mail to develop it further, protects existing jobs and has the potential to create more jobs going forward," CWU assistant secretary Bob Gibson told Voice.
"On top of that, the payments are fairer than before - everyone gets the same delivery allowance - and the same total amount of money that was paid out under the old "winners and losers" system is being paid out under the new, fair system.
"The important thing to remember is that this work is no longer separate, it is part of normal workload, and the £20 per week payment is not a 'door-to-door' payment, it is a 'delivery allowance'," Bob concluded.

How can it be fairer? The payment being given to the workers doing the D2Ds AND being given to the workers NOT DOING The D2Ds.They can call it what they like, the fact is those plodding round the streets used to get paid extra for taking extra leaflets whilst those who didnt do these didnt get paid...now that is what you call FAIR

Nobody gets paid for D2D anymore so it has nothing to do with delivering leaflets. That work is now the same as other mail and done within our hours. Having this set up means that there is no fairer way to distribute the money than the current delivery supplement. You are now paid by the hours you work, not the number of leaflets, mail or packets you deliver. Why is this unfair? It is far fairer than the old system provided everyone performs to a certain standard for the hours they work.

You are paid in relation to your contracted hours.
This is grossly unfair to part-time members who consistently have to work more than their contracted hours just to earn a decent wage.

Not sure I agree with you here, Fishtank. People accept part-time jobs for a variety of reasons. Some may well not want additional hours. Some will have more than one job. Those that choose to work overtime are in the same position as the full-timer who works overtime.
The delivery supplement is paid pro-rata on contracted hours, which seems fair to me.
I have yet to see anyone on here arguing that full-timers who do more than 40 hours a week should receive an increased supplement, yet their position is no different from that of a part-timer who does overtime.

Early RLE duty does in my D.O, they do delivery work once the late RLE duty comes in.

My only issue with the supplement was it being funded using existing funds only, which creates winners and loosers in terms of figures on payslips. However some very good points have been made on this site about PT going over their hours, for some yes its just a bit of voluntary O/T as they fancy some extra cash such as myself working my day off on a semi regular basis, but some PT have the workload for a FT contract and have the difference between hours as O/T. The later group should have been given the full whack and more thought should have been given to them.

Re: Non-Addressed Mail Work Moved Into Normal Workload
Surely if the workload exists then those positions should be upgraded to FT, I thought that was one of the declared objectives of this agreement? All benefits flowing through,ie. pensions, holiday entitlement.some PT have the workload for a FT contract and have the difference between hours as O/T. The later group should have been given the full whack and more thought should have been given to them.
If so RM would be taking a risk in not complying having already lost one tribunal involving unpaid holiday and pension in respect of a short hour contract with regular OT.

Re: Non-Addressed Mail Work Moved Into Normal Workload
Nobody forces anyone to work over their contracted hours. This applies to both full and part timers. If you agree to the terms RM offer for you to do more hours, then you agree on an individual basis and are accepting the terms. I, for instance, do not accept the measly overtime rate RM pay and therefore do not do any overtime.fishtank wrote:No Banner you are not.banner18 wrote: You are now paid by the hours you work.

The argument that part timers have to do it is dependent on personal circumstances. Plenty of part timers don't do any. Those that have to, I suspect have nice cars, a big house or loads of kids, all choices they made and have to pay the price for them.
