Long weekends ???

Got a question for a CWU Rep? And all CWU related matters.

Long weekends ???

I am a postlady for almost 3 years. I only had 3 long weekends since than. I am very disappointed about it.
The worst thing is that I cannot get the straight answer about Royal Mail rules of long weekends.
I asked all managers in our office. The Union gay is absolutely useless. Nobody wants to give me the answer. :arrrghhh I was ignored by everyone many times. :oops:
I don't have my own duty, I do what my manager says but I want to be treated as all postman around me.
Secondly, my husband works in the same office. He never had long weekend for 2, 5 years.
Should we have our long weekends together in the same time?

i cant answer that but ive been a leave reserve for 7 years havent got my own duty and i have never had a long weekend , union rep is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard , i just get shifted to other rounds , do you seem to get bank holidays as your days off as well ? just to let you know your not alone , roll on a repick.

You are entitled to a long weekend every 6 weeks the same as anyone else (assuming you have a rolling day off)
I don't think you and your husband are entitled to the same weekend but only a knobhead wouldn't try and make that happen.
If the CWU gay guy in the office won't help go over his head and get the Area Rep to sort it out.
FFS that's what you pay your subs for.

Unless you have a duty then you wont get long weekends
You will get the rotating day off for that particualr duty (as directed is the well used phrase)

but - you rep should be having his weekly resource meetings and this should be one of the things that is brought up and addressed (but if my office is anything to go by then we don't even have those meetings).

The duty I'm covering is meant to have Saturday off this week, guess what they gave me today off :roll: at least I had some sort of weekend I guess.........I've had 2 saturdays in over 2 years it just ain't good enough!

I'm the same, always off monday, so at least i get 2 days off together. Which is pretty good, not the same as having a nice Saturday off though. However, if I want a weekend off, I just need to ask and usually can get if possible.

Maybe try and ask for a weekend off, it works for me :)


But judging from many of the posts on here, our mananger seems like an ok guy compared to some of the others

I've said it a million times,it's not hard.

Get a rota with the reserves in,keep check of their days off,when a l/w is coming up it should go to the reserve who is behind on the amount of times they have had one.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Fixed days off at my D.O as VOTED FOR by a massive majority on a massive turn out so no experience of the long weekend structure and how it affects reserves.

This has ben dealt with in the national agreemnt for the new 1 in 4 sats off as its says the 1 in 4 sats off applies to reserves as well, the DOM and union gay should have that incorprated into the revision for your DO when ever it takes place, if dosent happen then vote no!!

You get a day off every week like everyone else. If you don't have a duty, then it's just tough luck. They don't need to give you a Saturday or a Monday. The only way you would get long weekends is if you're covering a duty for the week and its day off is Saturday, but you wouldn't get the Monday unless you were covering the same duty the following week. Just the way it is and no, they don't need to give you and your partner the same long weekend off either. If you have a decent DOM then you could ask him if you could have more Saturdays off. Whether he would try and do it for you and your partner i doubt it. Saturdays are always the hardest days to staff up, not many people want to work their days off on a Saturday.

She's obviously a reserve motherhubbard and hence no rolling day off and hence she doesn't get long weekends. No one is entitled to long weekends. You're entitled to a day off a week as well as Sunday. It just happens that duty holders and floaters get the rolling day off, reserves don't. They get the day off of the duty they're covering that week.
