Why doesnt RM smooth the "lumpy" flow of mail?

Post by chunk »

Tuesday we had very little mail in . All together I only had about 40kg to take out :Very Happy
Today Wednesday I literally had two and half times that.
( one of the hottest days of the year and england playing)
lots of parcels and sky mags.
I cant believe this is only the result of customer mailing habits.
rm surely has some control.(a few days) when big mailings like sky mags are fed into the system
as they are usually mailsort so why cant they be "released" on a Tuesday
maybe a mailcenter worker here could tell me if i assume wrongly
Most industries would try to avoid having staff alternating between not busy days and struggling to cope.
a car plant doesn't make 100 cars on Thursday and 180 on Friday.

i suspect having a very light day is an opportunity to lapse jobs and boost the doms bonus :shhhhh
with people not having a solid argument against doing it .
its also one day where overtime isnt booked?
the increased mail later in week means everyone is more than fully occupied.how they like it?.
surely rm could smooth our "lumpy" week out if they chose to. :confused

I agree with you, RM make it 'lumpy' to justify lapsing earlier in the week then stitch you up later in the week  Unfortunately hot/cold/snowy days have no relevance nor do England matches. In the office where I work, the guvnors didn't even make an exception for the funeral of a retired postie. I'm afraid you'll just have to suck it up :so there

It's one of the worlds great mysteries.
You would of thought on Mon being the start of the week the mailers would start pushing their stuff out,but it seems they do it on tuesdays for del wednesdays and so on.

There must be a reason for it though and if RM could sort it out it would be easier for the pipe line, but i guess they can't.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Perhaps a very slight discount on bulk mail accepted by Royal Mail at the beginning of the week might make sense. :Very Happy

not looking for special treatment
I only mentioned the football as an anecdote. :Very Happy

I agree, and surely now as D2Ds are done at 1/6 per day mail should be equalised.

It still wont happen as you can be sitting around on a tue's awaiting the missort run and then on your knee's on wed with twice the workload. Always been the same. :arrrghhh

A cracking idea! i imagine a bus company running half empty on Tuesdays would do similar.
RM could easily work in partnership with the the big posters: saga, sky
etc if they wanted to.
From a health and safety view RM should want to steer more of the weight into these light Tuesdays.

they pay for a first class service thats what they get

so the sooner royal mail realise this ( dragons den comes to mind) the sooner we stop shitting on postmen/women

so we are now a s**t business or a service run by very bad managment

so do we go to the public the dragons den or the queen to ask

I asked only yesterday why SKY didnt release their mags on a set date every month, and was told all the info they get is that it is always the last week of the month, not a certain day or date.I thought RM employed people to deal with outside customers needs, but obviously they must be busy.... :cuppa
same as it ever was...

Someone who used mailsort once, told me that they can be held for a few weeks before being delivered, so in effect we could have more at the begining of the week rather than bombed out later on..got loads of sky today too bleeding things.
