Are we now fighting the CWU as well as RM?

This could be seen as controversial but I have detected a definite shift away from the CWU both on here and in my office.

Im seeing much more anti union language and behaviour in both cases.

Since the 2010 & Beyond agreement Ive seen many people from my office leave the union and those that remain taking less interest in CWU affairs, in fact some people who are still in the CWU are tripping over themselves to undermine union activities linked with the latest agreement.

Its my view that we as a workforce are now fighting 2 fronts.

That of attacks from Royal Mail and attacks from the CWU.

I think im one of the lucky ones because I have a good local union rep in my office but I dont feel that the CWU at a national level represents what's best for me and many others who work in a delivery office. They negotiated a pay cut for us, doing the same work and when the D2D pick up we'll be doing more work for less money.

Absolutley right, same feeling in my office as well.
In fact, my rep was recently summoned to a area meeting of reps which he thought would be disscussing the 2010 agreement....but infact the main agenda of the meeting was a recruitment drive for the CWU as he was told people are leaving in their droves as postmen/women are starting to see this so called agreement for what it actully is !
Don`t listen to dingo and his figures on people that are leaving because they are fake, they are not an independant audit of leavers.
Our ability to strike has been removed for 3 yrs ...so save yourself some cash and cancel your subs.

Is it likely that the CWU will soon represent less than 50% of the workforce and so will no longer be recognised by Royal Mail ?

Music to RM ears whether the union were right or wrong this talk only strenghens RM hand.
The union isn't perfect and I have critised quite a bit but if you believe things will be better without the or a union you are seriously misguided.

OMG here we go again - another thread for the union bashers. (Collective noun - a tosspot)
They've got nothing new to say yet they repeat it ad infinitum.But:

They estimate that putting D2D into workload has saved 700 jobs in Scotland.
In our office putting D2D into workload adds approx 7hrs of prep time and 5 hrs out door time - a total of 12 hrs/day this week. That's 12 hours less to lapse.
Once D2D went into workload obviously we were going to lose the unit payment. While this wasn't good for some (me included) it was better for everyone.
On top of the gains of moving D2D into workload the CWU also managed to negotiate a 51p/hr supplement for everyone working in the delivery function.

So all you detractors - what the f**k have you managed to achieve?

I believe it is a RM estimate but I am only repeating what was said to me. I can't provide verification.

Stop slagging off the union and start slagging off the 62,000 (or however many thousands it was) of union memebers who couldn't be botherd to even vote. If anyone is to blame I think it's these people.

Same here, except that my area Reps are excellent too. But we desperately need new people to stand against those at HQ, before the damage becomes irreprable! Quite apart from the fact that it's important to me to be in a Union, and we all need the protection of our reps now, more than ever. It would IMHO be a terrible tragedy, if a handful of people "at the top" were able to bring us to the point, where RM could derecognise the CWU.

We really need major change at HQ, before it's too late. But we can't do that if people keep leaving, instead of trying to do something about the situation. Now that doesn't neccessarily mean standing for Reps positions themselves (although if you have a bad Rep, it's the best way to remove them!). But turning up at meetings, using our right to VOTE, instead of sitting back, and counting on others to vote. And worse still, moaning when things go badly, even if you haven't bothered to vote! Now that comment isn't aimed at anyone on here. Because those who can't be bothered to get involved, aren't likley to spend their time on the Internet discussing work. Although there could potentially be a tiny minority lurking on here.
