Door-to-Door Delivery Payment unfair to Part-timers.
The Mail and the union both have a strange fixation with what constitutes a part-time contribution to the working day at a delivery office. "Pro rata" payment based on weekly hours worked is grossly unfair. The rate should be based on number of days worked in a week.
It seems that every postie delivers mail, including D2Ds. There is no such thing as a part-time walk or a full-time walk. The postie who hits the street after the inward sort and prepping up delivers the full amount of mail as decided by pagasus or whatever. It does not matter whether he works just four hours on delivery only or is full-time, participating in every part of the daily grind - he still has a full walk's mail to deliver and should be paid accordingly.
I, for one, work 23.5 hours a week over four days so my pro-rata "delivery supplement" is £12.10. However, I am expected to deliver 1/6th of the D2Ds each day, the same as the full-time posties. I only work one day a week less than them, delivering 80 percent of their D2Ds, but receive less than 60 percent of the weekly payment. The numbers simply do not add up, but mine is not the worst case. The postie working five 4 hour days a week delivers exactly the same number of D2Ds as a 40 hour full-timer but is only paid a half of the delivery supplement !
My answer is to deliver exactly the same pro-rata amount of D2Ds that I am paid for. I am not alone in my delivery office and it would be good to know that others across the country think the same as me.

Re: Door-to-Door Delivery Payment unfair to Part-timers.
Whilst not agreeing with the delivery supplement (mainly because with a 600+ walk and ESA I lose a lot potentially) I have to point out the following:
1. The delivery Supplement is not paying you to deliver the D2Ds (the revenue from them is helping to pay for the supplement).
2. The delivery Supplement is paid to everyone working in a DO whether they deliver mail or not (CWU Grades only) so its not based on how much you deliver.
3. If you based the delivery supplement on days rather than hours worked, part timers would be getting a higher hourly rate of pay than a FTimer.
So whilst I recognise and even agree that the Delivery Supplement is unfair I think the argument you present for its unfairness is not a strong one.

The whole thing is a ludicrous mess, and everybody that has to deliver junk mail is being royally shafted.
There must be at least 15-20 staff at my DO that will be getting Door2Dustbin money, without ever having to come into contact with even one, single, solitary, piece of crap.
CWU, you spoil us, you really do!

Re: Door-to-Door Delivery Payment unfair to Part-timers.
Its clear the D2D issue is a bit of a mess but people are still not getting their heads around treating D2D as mail. The days of getting paid for delivering each item are over. The delivery supplement is also flawed but as a part timer myself I think it should be recognised that full timers are knocking their pan out from 5.30 in the morning then doing a walk. If you get in at your correct time and prep whats left of your round including D2Ds then do your walk and your working your contract 24 hours a week you cant really argue you are doing as much work as someone who works 39/40 hours. The real issue I think is wether or not there is enough time to do what you are asked within the hours available.

its a paycut for all, some had 4 sets 600 calls, and no 39 hour week, are the savings being used to clear pension deficit.

No. It's a paycut for all Delivery Posties, and mass job losses for the rest of us. Either way, we all loose!

While i dont like it and obviously most of us don't you have to understand why there are part timers.
Your IPS and prep(most of the time) is absorbed, full timers have to pick this up,with the WSM's they will pick up more.
Everybody is geting paid for the hr's they work not what work they do in those hr's.
A part time who works LESS hr's than a full timer HAS to get ANY supplement pro rata. It's common sense.
The big problem which people have to get their heads round is that while it is technically D2D's it is not.
RE teebs:The delivery Supplement is not paying you to deliver the D2Ds (the revenue from them is helping to pay for the supplement).
Hope i haven't confused you lot with the last bit.
Oh and for the record financially i am down. And no way am i anti part timers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Door-to-Door Delivery Payment unfair to Part-timers.
PT me, and unhappy. What i find crazy, is that i have to do 20% every day.......5 days, approx 60-70 a day = 350 max.
Other rounds in my office now do slightly less than me a week, and don't deliver them on sat.
They get a sat off every 4 weeks.
YET, they get paid more than me.......oh, and i got told last week, if i want to deliver them, then i have to sort the boxes out!
I'm not going to be the office bitch.
I would also like to point out, that i never got a voting slip sent to me............i asked 3 times!

we have a few 30hour, 5day staff, they were in virtual revolt over this latest pro rata rip off, they all spent half hour in the canteen complaining, but luckily they all come in an hour early every day so no damage done.Mossman73 wrote:have to agree. Re: Door-to-Door Delivery Payment unfair to Part-timers.
Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Do part timers lose early shift allowance ??? erm ??? NO - whys that ??? Coz they start 3.5 hrs later than the FT staff who get up in the middle of the night... So we LOSE our early shift allowance , yet still get up in the middle of the night !! So you get your £20.60, take off your £12 early shift allowance, and you`ve got £8.60, less tax, I bring home about £6 for however many d2d we get.
Infact this week I brought home £274, when I usually bring home a flat wage of £273, so I actually get £1 !! Oh and I get up earlier than EVERYONE else due to FF, so do you still feel aggrieved ???
The facts are simple, the payment isnt ANYTHING to do with D2D. D2D are now workload, so do them properly, and if you go over book the overtime - they cant stop you, as its treated as first class mail, so if it causes excess so be it - get your cash that way. Thats why these useless feckers who are taking them all on monday are cretins and are ruining the job even further.
ER YES Jimmy
All the P/Timers in my office except 2 start when the F/T start they do lapseing and everything else F/T do. the only thing they don't do is IPS which beleive it or not we used to have to do the first wave untill about a year ago.
The P/T rounds on the whole are as big as the F/T rounds but get out a little earlier so their official finish is earlier 1'Oclock insted of 3'Oclock.Yes i and the other P/T staff in my DO lost ESA as well as you so please stop using this to justify
the inane sense of injustice you feel about losing out on your ESA. So now my opinion for what its worth, well yes it is unfair that F/T lost ESA as it is P/T lost it but we are not each others enimies at least i hope not though i do wonder at times,
we work together and we are all in this mess together and need to fight in support of each other, there is only one group of people trying to bring us all down and thats RM and we need to see that. So less us and them and more Us Against Them with or without CWU HQ.

Surely you have do do one sixth of your round each day at least Monday through Saturday. Whoever covers the round on your day day off does that particular sixth. If you chose to get Saturdays lot out of the way earlier in the week ( a lighter day ?) then thats your call. Thats what i do in any event.
Other rounds in my office now do slightly less than me a week, and don't deliver them on sat.
How can this be ? The whole walk has to be covered over the week.
I find I am doing less D2Ds than I was previously as someone else does the due ones on my day off. OK we are not getting paid anywhere near as much as before but you also get the supplement on a week there are no D2Ds.
I imagine RM management are laughing their heads off as we all get in a right state about D2Ds. Its a complete red herring...What we should be arguing about and pushing for is driving down personal car usage and getting these sodding vans sorted if they are ever going to move them from whatever field they are stashed in. I speak as a car user myself working in DO where it seems just about everyone apart from the long standing full timers uses a car. The managers love this im sure as it seems to me it takes all the 'management" out of the job as you have to manage the round yourself whatever walk they choose to put you on. Not to mention using your own petrol, making the impossible seem possible and all the other points that have been made in other threads. I suppose it will all happen in due course but personally I cant see what incentive RM have to change the current set up. No doubt as a relative newbie I am over simplyfying matters but just my thoughts and observations...
