I have been a postie for over 10 years now. Am a silver surfer aswell. Before i joined RM since leaving school . Apart from being in the army , every job i had ( never been on the dole ) involved a certain clocking in and out machine. Today i was chatting to a few old posties .And they all agreed that they should be used within RM ? You get the youngsters who have had a drink or two to many who stroll in 15 mins late. Sign a bit of paper. False start time !
They get on with there duty. Do it in say 6 hours ( paid 8 hours ! ) Whilst others work 7 or 8 hours . Same pay.
I do not at the moment know of any other business in the UK that still has job and finish ?
I am just jarred off with going back to office and seeing workmates in there casuals going about town and i am still working. For the same pay.
When you have finished your duty. Go back to the office and Clock out !
Am sorry . But think Croizer was right about 8 hours pay for 8 hours work !
Think about it ? The guy next to you is working 30 hours and you are working 40 !! For the same money !

Get as fit and efficient as your colleagues and you might finish the same time as them or if they've got better walks than you look out for what vacancies come up and stop moaning.

I have worked 41 hours this week and booked the hours overtime but 2 duties in my office have done 10 hours overtime without going over their 40 hours.

To say I am fecked off is a understatement.

Totally agree with you there's part-timers in my office who work 30 hours and get paid 30 hours, there's full-timers getting paid 40 hours and working 30 hours. One thing Croizer always said it, you have to work all the hours your paid to work but in my office it doesn't happen the full-time duties are a joke put what can you do nothing.

Or you could also think of it this way,

As you are taking 8hrs to do your delivery and a younger man is able to do it in 6-7hrs, would it not the be better financial sense for Royal Mail to lay you off and pay a young man for 7 hrs work rather than you for 8hrs.

By having clocking in and out we would be giving Royal Mail one hell of a stick to beat us with,

I can imagine it now, "Jones was able to do your walk yesterday well within his time, but yet you are always claim overtime when you do it" or " we feel that you are no longer suitable so we're going to let you go and replace you with someone who is more up to the task"

I've done a few years myself, I know that these days I can't do what I was able to do when I was in my 20's, thats why I'm glad for seniority.

The nature of our job is a physical one, the older we get the slower we get, thats a factor of life, don't begrudge the young uns their moment they to will get old like we have done.

The newer photo id cards have a bar code on them, they could have barcode scanner next to a suitable desk which a postie would use to scan the barcode on their ID card, if linked in with a small screen, and suitable software the screen could be used to display important info like changes to WTLL times, etc

Better still, RM have RFID scanners above every door now so it wouldn't be difficult to implant them into our ID badges to track us in and out everyday.

Better still, RM have RFID scanners above every door now so it wouldn't be difficult to implant them into our ID badges to track us in and out everyday.

The chips in the card set them RFID scanners off anyway so all they would need to do is install the RFID scanners above any door which doesn't have them (including normal doors at the front of the buildings where you head in and out) and adjust the chip in the card so that it can be identified by the RFID scanners, probably pay number would be a suitably unique number

Whats an ID badge ?

I've been with RM for a year now and still haven't got mine, there are blokes in our office still waiting after 2 yrs, how can you expect RM to get the big issues right when they can't even get every one an ID card, which according to last months courier is a No1 priority and I should not be allowed on duty without it !!

- very true indeed. No company can realistically expect a 60 year old with body worn out from 40 years on this job to work at the same pace as a 20 year old. There is a case for clocking in and out though and I understand that the forthcoming Strategic Defence Review will be considering it for soldiers to get the best value for taxpayers money from them.
