Please help.
I work on packets and specials. I'm getting harrassmant off of our new manager. She is wanting too much from me, i work all my hrs and today saturday she made me do a 45 min bag. I didnt finish till after 14. 30 with break and started at 6.30. She only asked drivers some to do this. But my round is big enuf anyway. all posties where finished an hour before there time today but i have worked my hours all week and they have finished early most days.
Anyway i wanna know security proceduces for packets as i have been told by her its ok to have them on the front seat for now as her top man ( her boss) said it was ok. Not had it in writing. I only wanna do the job properly.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. Don't have anything in the front seat ever. Don't make your van a target by having anything on display. And don't work past your time unless you want to book the overtime. If you don't tell the manager you want an instruction. If you do make certain you get paid for it. If the manager is new, then you should be showing them from the outset that you aren't a pushover and you won't be fobbed off. If in doubt see your rep, thats what they are there for. Don't be steamrollered, protect yourself!
I am certain that the police would take a dim view to anyone having "an unrestrained load" on the front seat of a delivery van.
Also although you may be the safest possible driver on the road I am certain others are not, and would you take a bet with a perstop or a packet against your head during a collision, especially a high speed one.

Doors to load area locked shut. Store value items in “Shrewsbury” box (or similar) where available in load area, larger items of high value behind box.
All mail in load area. Park as close as reasonably possible to delivery point, whilst complying with statutory requirements.
Close and lock all doors Remove ignition key and keep on person.
Where road and traffic conditions permit, keep to schedule route
Thanks 'fishtank', I was trying to remember what the security memo we signed was called. A rural driver with 40 years good service got busted down off driving for getting a tracked packet and his phone nicked out of the front of the van. I thought our office was bad, but they never tell anyone to have mail in the front, quite the opposite in fact.
Hi, i have printed out this doc on security proceduces. and lol i will give my boss a copy on monday. And from then on i will be working from the back of the van. I will also ask for a meeting of the drivers in our office to make sure everyone else is aware.

The IB are prone to checking out vans. They check for the obvious first. Doors locked, keys out of ignition, no mail on display. Any of the three and you'll find them waiting at your van.
I was on a convey duty this week, today I had dropped everyone off and made a start on their bag drops. At one of the drops I had trouble starting the van and managed to get it going to the next drop. Done that drop and it would'nt start, phoned LM and said about the problem.......was told 'when you get it going, leave it running' I said I've got pkts/specials/walk to do and I were'nt happy to do that. Luckily the van never started again and an hour later they bought a spare out, not enough seats in it to get everyone back to the office though
