My time is being checked

Was told that the dom does not believe I am going fast enough in the mornings in respect of my lapsed duty, tying up, d2d prep etc.

Was advised that I am now going to have everything I do tomorrow checked and timed.

Have received some very good advice from a very reliable colleague but was hoping to get some feedback / info from anyone else that has been in this situation as of late.

as far as indoor goes then make sure everything is included

d2d prep, all your mail, clearing off, dead and blind, packet bags, your break and bundling up - also make sure your bags are weighed and split down if they are overweight

make sure the clock is running and DO NOT allow whoever is timing you ( make sure you have a rep to oversee the timing) does not go and clear off for you or get your packet bag etc etc you must do everything that your duty should do - noone else

do not go super fast do not go super slow work at your normal rate

when outside do not walk and read ( you shouldn't anyway) flick through when you are at a doorstep, do not take shortcuts, walk up every path and close every gate ( again you should anyway) and make sure your travelling time is included

If it was me I would also keep a check of the time myself ( on your mobile of you have one most have stopwatches) for both indoor and outdoot - make them aware you will be doing this and compare times at the end of indoor - reset - then start as soon as you leave the office ( so you know how long it takes you to get out) start again at the start of your walk and stop at the end and time yourself getting back to the office

ask for a copy of the notes he has made THAT DAY - a photocopy when you arrive back into the office - ( ask for this before you start in the morning) if he refuses ask why and ask to see the dom with the union rep

that's all the advice I can give

nearly forgot ask for a copy of the final report and findings so you can compare

don't forget to write your timings down ( if you get the manager to sign them there and then to say they are accurate it always helps)

Dont forget the 2 piss breaks at the nearest public toilet.

Go when you have to pee and not when its most convinient for the person timing you.

If this means walking to the loo then so be it. If they start moaning then tell them you will piss your pants and that its illegal for them to deny you a piss break.

Remember, when park and loop is in you will have to break off your delivery and walk to the nearest public loo as you wont have a bike. RM cant deny you the right to a toilet break if you need one.

Use the rules to your advantage.

Just one thing that hasnt been mentioned but to make sure that time is included ,the walking you do to and from the phgs locker,dead box,the ips frames and the packet frame .

Dont let your DOM stop the clock when walking from these designated areas.

Good luck buddy and just work your normal speed as far as im aware the prep rate for the ips in the IWT is set at 22 items per minute check with your rep that is the national agreed figure as im not sure whether in the very near future an agreed PS is going to be set with R/M and the CWU.

Sound advice from some top posties but I wondered if you had an agreed 'sort rate' at your office? If not, it all seems a bit of a waste of effort.

I remember having my walk timed by a manager from another office. It was all going okay til he had to actually do the delivery part with me. It was really pathetic, for a start i had to keep waiting for him whilst walking and it also didnt help that he had to keep stopping and tying his shoe laces,(obviously was an over skilled manager) then he forgot to write one of the times down for a street we had already delivered to, what a joke! He was quite a nice bloke but i did say at the end that he had failed his test and that i would not be recommending him for any future postal vacancies! After returning to the office and asking for a print out of the times from my DOM..he didnt have time and mysteriously the next day my times had completely disappeared into thin air!!

Nearly as good as the manager that tested one of our walks - by watching the postman, from his car whilst eating crisps. You couldn't make it up
