I believe that most postal workers would prefer to work Monday to Friday with the weekend off. The CWU has always insisted that we need to work Saturdays to preserve jobs but what it really means is preserve its subs. Let's face it the job is no longer worth saving and there would be no shortage of volunteers to leave as long as the redundancy offered was half-decent.

Has the CWU ever asked its membership for its views? Perhaps it is time to do so.

I know postman who knock themselves out on a Saturday to make sure they can
get off on time to to watch or play various sports (often with their familys).
Problem is,
RM have been systematically attacking that long held notion namely that saturday is a "short"
day! racking up the difficulity anyway they can with lapsing etc because of paranoia that we dont work our time.
i have no problem with working my hours but can understand peoples anger.
you try to salvage something from your pitifully short weekend and rm try to scupper it.
Mon to Friday? Im in !

we have wanted this for the near 40years ive been a posty but it's never happened and with the union fighting to maintain jobs its not likely to in the future.

So by my calculations more than 75% of the people who replied would like to see our normal working week be changed to Monday to Friday with a premium service available on Saturdays staffed by volunteers. I know it is a very small sample but I suspect it would be replicated if offered (and properly explained) to the workforce in general.

dont think the sample size would be the problem, think your problem would be the fact that the spread of members on here does not entirely reflect the general working community within RM, just look at the poll for how people would vote for the new agreement, on here there was a resounding NO choice of 84% but when push came to shove this was not reflected in the actual results

Yes, as long as the redundancy package was reasonable.Nearly half the people in our delivery office want out. In my view the union should be securing good packages for those who want to go and , in the process, improving the lot of those who want to stay (eg Monday to Friday working, limited D2Ds). Instead we are expected to accept everything that RM throws at us "to save jobs".

We have lots of people say they want it but the reality is different.
When it comes down to it, unless you have another job already lined up or you can afford to retire, it isn't a great option.
30 or 40 grand sounds like a lot of money but it ain't, not really.It would all be gone after a couple of years and then what?
