My mate retired 6 months ago and now looks 10 years younger

Post by krussel »

Out on the walk today I bumped into an ex postie friend who I worked with for 15 years. He retired at Christmas aged 61years. I nearly walked past him as he looks so bloody well and different. An amazing change all over as he looks ten years younger and seems much healthier and happy.

He said he felt kinda out of place for the first couple of months and still got up really early and thought about the office missing all the banter  He even felt like driving over and popping in for a cuppa but after a while that settled down and his slipped into an easier way of life with later nights and mornings. :Very Happy He recons that the pains he was getting in his knees and legs have all gone and he now feels like getting out and doing many more things with his time other than the old days of finishing the round/lapsing and then feeling tired for the rest of the day regardless of how much he rested.

I was really surprised by how much more relaxed and laid back he seemed out of the job. He said that he never really realised the stress he was under thinking about going into work and trying to cope with a full delivery, even checking the weather forcast, until he didn’t have too anymore.

After seeing him I really want to retire now :cry :cry

I met a former manager (a decent one) who had retired, and he looked years younger too,
He said he had taken up karate, and spent time fishing.
On the other hand a lot of people seem to drop dead within a few weeks or months of retiring.

I bumped into a guy that was dismissed for swearing at a customer [think he was stressed] At work he looked like an anorexic druggie, all pale, skinny, big bags under his eyes you could fit a bundle in.

Anyway I saw him a couple of years later and almost didnt recognise him he looked younger, fitter, healthier and a damn sight happier. He said had he realised just how the job had messed him up he'd have sworn at customers much sooner! :dance

When I worked with my mate he always seemed to have a cold and had dark circles under his eyes. He did have some problems with his knees which caused him some discomfort in the later years which probably did not help. He tried for AVR a couple of times to escape but ended up going the full term.

Its difficult to get a full week of a good nights sleep of say 8 hours plus, I prob average 6.30 a night and I guess that makes a difference to your looks as the years add up.
